Back in the day everyone was writing their own scripts to automate things, as it was pretty much the only way to use computers, and UNIX was specifically designed to make scripting easy. Nowadays automating tasks with scripts is a bit of a lost art, but it's still useful, and a great way both to enhance one's programming skills and to get more familiar with the system's internals.
Also, while it can be frustrating, the debugging part is where one learns the most, so feel free to elaborate on it instead of cutting it short. :)

I don't wanna be that guy but I think the reason your script wasn't moving the keynote file is because you had the .sh file on the desktop every time you ran it. So it would check for .json .sh etc. see that there is an .sh file, move it, then return before hitting the else condition. I may be wrong though.
