I think the future biopic about the creation of Megalopolis will be the one winning Academy Awards.

It's seems like every positive review of this film is the reviewer loving the idea of the film and not the film itself. They love that it was self funded, that Copolla did it his own way, that it was his passion project. But they never explain why the film is good. Has anyone seen a review that genuinely thought the film itself was good?

Why do all these directors love Adam Driver? I cannot stand him. I think he's one of the worst actors I've ever seen. I just see "Adam Driver" in every role he plays instead of the character.

When I first heard of this movie, I confused it with Fritz Lang's Metropolis. I'm convinced a remake would be a better film. Hopefully, Coppolla has enough to rebuild his vineyards/winery.

I watched it last night and I actually liked it. The movie is bonkers at times, charming and funny at other times, it's a great looking picture with good music and it's filled to the brim with interesting ideas and crazy ass shit. It's never boring. I don't understand the hate for it.

To be completely honest, I have never ever seen such a bad film. It really earns my number one spot on worst movies ever. The Room is way better and more fun to watch than Megalopolis.
The time stopping ability of Caesar was never explained, nor was it explained why Ciceros daughter was not affected by it. But more importantly, IT DID NOT MATTER AT ALL. This feature was never used once for plot and when it was used, it was just for some cheesy, "I've lost myself moment" or some scene to build a connection between Ceasar and Ciceros Daughter.
The worst scene by far was the drug usage during the Colloseum scene. It was done way to much and so fucking bad that I cringed during the whole scene.
This was the first time, me and my partner thought about leaving early. I had a couple moments where I bursted out laughing loud during his drug usage. Really bad acting and bad script.
I've forgot already mostly about the second half of the movie and to be honest, I'm happy i've forgot it. For some reason, during the scene where they fall in love, Ciceros Daughter suddenly gets the ability to stop time aswell.
The last scene was the fuck you and middlefinger I've ever seen. We didnt leave because I was curious to see how bad it really can get. It didnt dissapoint.
Caesar and Ciceros Daughter get a baby and during the last scene, there is a countdown for new years eve. On the last second of the Countdown, the Daughter of Cicero (who suddenly also can stop time) stops the time during their kiss and, you wont belive it, she stopped the time FOR THEM SELVES. ONLY THE BABY IS MOVING AND NOT AFFECTED BY THE TIME.
BUT SINCE IT WAS ESTABLSIHED, THAT YOU NEED TO SPEAK THE WORDS IN ORDER TO RESTORE TIME, THE ENTIRE WORLD / UNIVERSE IS STUCK SINCE THE BABY CANT POSSIBLY RESTORE THE TIME.
Now that I think about it, the baby is probably telling the audience that you wasted your time and there is no possibilty to get it back.
Please for the love of god, save yourself the money and the time and dont watch this garbage. Just because its from Francis F. Coppola, doesnt mean the movie gets some sort of arty fartsy pass.

Reminds me of something a guy said about "Asteroid City". There are people out there who assume that if they can't understand a film they just watched, it must therefore be deeply profound and nuanced.
This is preferrable to admitting you just spent $12 on incomprehensible, pretentious nonsense.

I'd have to buy the DVD because of where I live. I'd be tempted to buy it out of curiosity. I watched an interview with Coppola and he said it was based on the Catiline conspiracy during Cicero's consulship.. it sounded like he didn't understand that the fall of the Roman Republic and the fall of the Roman Empire were two very different episodes, centuries apart. Cicero was the good man trying to prevent the takeover by upstarts that wanted to rule and destroy the republic, becoming, in all things, but name, Emperors and dictators. It sounds absolutely crazy. Drugs and creativity do not make for good entertainment.
