Who is Faiz Ahmed Faiz? What did he stand for? Some are turning this great symbol of the Pakistani left into merely a liberal romantic poet. I am from India, and it is a pleasant experience to see a contemporary Pakistani strumming guitar.

While analysing Faiz, you diplomatically omitted a vital aspect of this greatest poet of the 20th century : Faiz was a Marxist in his core ideology. Just like Sahir, Kaifi and many other Urdu poets of India.

Unfortunately, esp in the sub-continent, being a leftist has become a slur, which is an alarming symptom of the rise of Right-wing politics dominated by the priestly class and the filthy rich..

And it is true on both sides of the border.

Faiz is basically a rebel poet. Any topic in his poetry brings a rebellious flavor with it. His expression of love for his beloved is extremely rebellious as well as his love for his beloved country. He doesn't differentiate between his lover and his country. It often seems difficult to figure out about whom he is talking.

Great & laudable efforts..am reading Faiz since 1985 & every time I read Faiz, I think I read something new. You are a great teacher, but, one has to understand the background for each poem, he wrote. For instance he wrote "Mujh sey pehli si mohabat" in the backdrop of great Depressions, of 30s.. No other poet in the world has written any POETRY, about the 30s Economic depressions.

Faiz got married in Srinagar Indian occupied Kashmir and sheikh Abdullah performed his nikkah aswell - he took part in freedom struggle of Kashmir before Mullahs take it over

taghaful is from the word ghaflat and is such a beautiful word. There is no word taghwal or what ever you were trying to say.
