Mrs Patmore must face her ailing eyesight after a disastrous dinner service in which Sir Anthony Strallan splutters in disgust when tasting her meringue dessert.

Mary is introduced to a potential suitor, Sir Anthony Strallan, yet she appears to be more interested in Matthew. A valuable snuff box goes missing and Mrs Patmore tearfully reveals her fears to Carson that her career may be coming to an end. O’Brien engineers a way for Edith to be revenged on Mary.

Carson was such a wonderfully written character. He could be a bit of a pill sometimes, but when it mattered the most he was absolute gold.

Luckily Mrs Partmore has an employer that provides full medical and optical benefits. If I remember Lord Grantham covers the cost of her eye operation with no deductible or minimum out of pocket on the part of the employee.

Carson always sets it to right. The cook was loosing her sight. She just needed glasses. Which Carson saw to. Great show great movie

Wow, I remember this. Poor Mrs. Patmore suffering from poor vision, unable to read the "receipt" for Apple Charlotte thus having to turn down making it, and then mistaking salt for sugar. Terrified of losing her job and winding up a poor, old, blind woman. I loved how Carson took the scene in hand.

My parents where at a regimental dinner where this happened:
The dessert was meringue suisse, everybody tasted it and fell silent, nobody said a word, the servers went to the kitchen an told the cook that everybody made such a strange face while they ate the dessert, so she tasted it and discovered that she had salted the whipped cream ...
She cried heartbreakingly, but icecream was found and served instead.

I didn't like Mrs Patmore in this episode: she was ready to throw Daisy under the bus just to save herself. I know she was stressed that she might lose her job, but that is no excuse for deliberately trying to do harm to other people.

I love the followup the the chicken being dropped, that was skipped in this edit. I don't recall which character, might have been Matthew, but shortly after we see the chicken being dropped and then placed on a platter, we see a character eating and pulling a piece of something unexpected back out of his mouth. Other then him glancing down for a split second, there is no attention drawn to it. But its just the sort of detail that made this show so much fun to watch.
