In this video we are going to look at the basics of indexing Matlab arrays & manipulating arrays in Matlab.

Ability to index into arrays, to slice and splice arrays is a super useful and important skill in Matlab.

The example used is taken from space sciences this time. We are analyzing the sudden failure of a space probe by looking at the time domain signal from a set of transponders ( one main and one backup) mounted on the space probe.

The following variables as functions of time are collected during a test flight :
Time domain signal from transponder 01
Time domain signal from transponder 02

The space probe fails suddenly and starts spinning uncontrollably. We are able to detect the frequency of this spin by analyzing the transponder signal. Unfortunately, transponder 01 is ripped off after a few seconds and its signal flatlines.

At this point, transponder 02 takes over and starts transmitting.

We have to cut and splice the useful parts of the signal from transponders 01 and 02 and deliver the stitched data to the failure analysis group.
