In this video, Shane does a deep-ish dive into US destroyer construction. There are so many topics that can be gleaned from information available, but for this video he looks at the length of time to construct, and the various yards that did!

Shane of the Buffalo Erie County Naval Park - one of the factors that lead some yards to produce destroyers in shorter periods of time - that yards themselves might had gone to 24/7 hours production- meaning instead of one or two different shifts- they increased to a third shift of workers - allowing production to be shortened

This video gave all the signs of being a dry as dust presentation, but I found it to be pretty interesting. It’s amazing how the USA got so much better at building destroyers during WW2.

Btw - the best documentaries that I have seen on shipping and ship building were on British TV. One of them was about the building of Liberty ships during WW2, and the other was about the long and slow decline of the British ship building industry in the twentieth century.

Maybe the newer ships had a ton of electronic modifications or modifications done for the first time ever. Complex radar and sonar systems might have taken time to come from the factory.
