Slipknot had and still has the best drummers in all of metal. Joey (RIP) and Eloy are genuinely the GOATs

If you go too fast with these it’s easy but the faster you go the harder it is to stop and slow down after it’s like your going faster and you can’t slow down as much after you hit the breaks

I do the same thing, bit with a backbeat instead, it really trains your sticking because you need to constantly know with wich hand you land on the 2 or 4

If you watch the clips from when he was younger thats basically how he use to play all of his parts. It was all one crazy drum beat. He said as time went on he realised playing fast is impressive but its not digestable to the listener so your just kinda left thinking "that was cool" while not really feeling any kinda groove from it. He realised slowing down and catching grooves is very important, but you can still see his signiture style at work in his chops. Once it got explained like that his chops make so much more sense. It's like going half-time and adding more notes. Thats genius

Idk what this means, but that's pretty dope

That's really smart, and i think it would also work in jazz and other genres. Good advice 👍

Well, I notice that in Eloy's drumming, but first I've learned that from is Virgil Donati.

it’s one thing to be able to play the chops, but it’s and entirely different thing to be able to hit that fucking hard AND with finesse. i tried that once, and my joints started crying after one song. eloy must also train like an athlete physically. talk about dedication to his craft.

I’ve been a drummer for a little over 30 years and one thing I can tell you is if you want chops like that it’s all about endless hours of practice practice practice which in turn gives you conditioning and muscle memory.

Ive followed Slipknot since Joey went on to bigger and better things, and I will say Eloy is the best fill in since then. Hes extremely good. No hate at all but Joey still had a feel that is slightly lacking with Eloy. Same concept with Oli Herbert from All That Remains and Jason Richardson. The talent is absolutely there, but when it comes to talent; just because it can be done doesnt mean it should be done.
