Schubert: Sonatina in D, Op. 137, No. 1, D. 384 - Ingrid Haebler, Henryk Szeryng. Rec. 1974
Показать описание
0:00 - 1. Allegro molto
3:15 - 2. Andante
7:16 - 3. Allegro vivace
Recorded 23-26 July,1974
Philips Classics – PHCP-9041 / Japan
“There is a warmness, purity and sparkle to Szeryng's playing that is utterly captivating and Haebler matches the consumate artistry of his partner, bar for bar, each inspiring the other. How refreshing to have a true partnership of equals, the two instruments perfectly balanced, the violin not overspotlit, which so often spoils such recordings.
Needless to say, the recording is of Philips’ finest analog quality and these performances have never sounded more beautiful than here, lacking the 'edge' their CD incarnations suffer from. Not only among Szeryng and Haebler's finest recordings, but among the great Schubert recordings ever set down for posterity – a cherishable, wonderful set.”
Wrote the critic M.M. in her review for the March 1976 issue of The Gramophone:
“The Schubert Violin Sonatinas are music of total charm. They are also technically easy to play. This in no way reduces their charm; but it does, unhappily, reduce the number of occasions on which it is possible to hear them played by artists of the very front rank. Szeryng and Haebler are of course such artists, and happily they remain undeterred by the absence of opportunity for display; instead they play the pieces seemingly with total affection, certainly with total skill, and without in any way inflating them out of their innocence. If the Sonatinas can be played better than this I do not see how.
“The Duo is not quite the same case as music; for, while lacking nothing in charm, it does at times expand its range of emotion and with it the technical demands made on the players. Again there is no inflation in the present performance; merely, and very properly, the use of reserves of technique to allow the music to flow freely and easily. This is most beautiful playing, and it is very well recorded, in ideal balance.”
