Don't be afraid, my bird,
It’s just a thunder.
The thunder’s outside — it cannot hurt,
until its rage somewhere wanders.
A storm speaks not a faltering word.
It’s only rain,
don't be so nervous:
these tears of skies aren't fruits of pain,
a lash of clouds tremulous
won’t lacerate the meaning of the main.
Don't be deprived of dark,
my feathered fellow:
the outer darkness cannot sear your little heart.
It’s soft, and flexible, and mellow,
unlike obscurity that dwells along my art.
Don't be alarmed by death, my birdy:
it simply has no might
to make this caged life more nerdy
or cover worlds with endless night
for eyes already shut so sturdy.
