Oh and speaking of System of a Down, you absolutely need to check out the trio of covers("Chop Suey", "Toxicity" and "Aerials") Violet did with Halocene and Lauren Babic on Halocene's page. Guaranteed to blow you away.

I thought she would be your cup of tea. :-) I'll be very happy to see any of your other reactions to her.

She's a straight alto, you gotta hear her high end, it is quite breath taking, with some strong Amy Lee vibes, though not quite in the same range, timbre or warmth. Definitely give her cover of Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness" with Ai Mori a listen, or even her "Lithium" cover to see what I mean.

Violet LOVE LOVE LOVE. My all time fav current singer (with Melodia of Liliac as my second and hence how I found this). I just had to hear your reaction to this. She reminds me so much of one of my all time fav power singers Amy Lee. As to this song, yes Violet typically changes the songs to some degree for her covers. To make it more her own and to suit her own style of singing. At times she can change it to more acoustic or classical, other times more metal and anywhere between. She tries to make art, not just mimic a cover. While there are plenty of her covers that I love better than others, there is not a single one that I do not like. One of the main reasons for this is because she knows her music and knows how to change the song to suit her and her style of singing. She just nails every song.

Violet is known as an Alto singer. Or as an Alto Metal singer. Technically the difference is Contralto is an actual voice type of classical singing. Alto technically is not an actual singing part, but a choral part. Contralto refers to simply the lower voice type (vs mezzo-soprano and soprano) for a female singer. Alto on the other hand refers to the lower female part of the choral music. And usually Alto's comprise both Contralto and Mezzo-Soprano. As Violet can easily hit both Contralto and Mezzo-Soprano, she is known as an Alto singer. Although if you labeled her using only voice types, she would be called an Contralto. A true Contralto however is rare. And while she can sing those parts that low, that is not her natural range. Her natural range is a bit higher than that.
