Should You Play Lost Ark in 2023?
Lost Ark was developed by Smilegate and published by Amazon Game Studios as an action RPG MMO (ARPG). Lost Ark has an incredible combat system, fantastic classes and a great end game challenge. But it also has its issue that have lead to big decrease in players. So I wanted to cover if Lost Ark is worth playing in 2023.

There was a lot to cover here, as Lost Ark is such a big game, with so many systems, but hopefully this is enough to review the game. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Lost Ark or the review.

The combat in this game sells itself, it is so so so so GOOD!

Should you play this game in 2023? No absolutely not, unless you want to just play very casually for some fun. Trying to catch up to current content is an insane grind, the devs dont really care about you, just your wallet and some of their practices really show it.

balanced vid, good review, as a day 1 player who burnt out the only point i disagree with is i think the 1-50 grind is pretty casual and nice, much less time consuming than old school WoW or ff14 so i wouldnt hold it against the game but yeah honing is just brutal and you understaded the 20% as in late tier 3 it can get to below that so imagine grinding for 3 days just for a 13% chance at getting +1 on one pice of gear, just brutal

I honestly wouldn't recommend it if you enjoy playing any other game.
I quit last year because having multiple alts you have to run if you want to progress fast without swiping is like having a full time job. You can have one character but it will take months to even get any were at this point in the game.
On top of that the daily grind of Chaos, guardian raids on 6 characters twice a day is mind numbing.
The real content is often gatekept as people just want fast runs because of having so many characters to get through so unless you're best in slot on accessories, have 5x3 on engravings and over powered you will be lucky if you find a group to take you. It's also weekly so once it's done it's done it's done you can't run it again unless it's on alts.
On top of that the gold nerf that was added in on the 15th along with Artist is going to make it impossible for new players to join even with alts as you need gold for any thing in this game.
I had fun to begin with and will still do my boyfriends chaos from time to when I'm at his, but the RNG on honing (I was wasting mats for ilvls) and everything else in this game just got to much and I wanted to play other things but with this I couldn't because of the amount of stuff I had to do even on rested bonus.
At this current situation with the gold nerf new player would be lucky to get in to a valton, vykus or clown party because they won't have the gold or gear.
So if I'm asked I wouldn't even recommend it to a new player because I value there sanity.

I played through the current main storyline through South Vern I think it was. I really enjoyed the whole story, even the 1-50 stuff, had a lot of fun. However, as I got into Tier 3 and I think it was the 1370 grind, I decided it just wasn't worth my time. It's just too much grind, then the RNG fails on the honing. I've got better things to do with 20-30 hrs per week than incrementally grind away for a couple points in item level here and there. I may come back when there is more main story and they move into Tier 4, so I can do a quick catch-up on the story and see where it goes. Also, it was nice spending $0 to play through it.

The Subscription isn’t really optional. It’s needed as you cannot repair your gear while in dungeons/raids. Your gear gets damaged whenever you die or your team wipes. Once your gear is too damaged you don’t deal any damage and have basically no armour. You end up being a letdown for your group as they can no longer continue with the raid and must completely reset and find another team.

Things not mentioned in the video, if you want to catch up to current content, prepare to swipe your credit card or no life 8-12 hrs/day. If you are competitive player, most of the competent players that don't take 8-20 hrs a week to clear raiding content will only be found (outside of extreme lucky circumstances) at the highest point in the game or just carrying you at the lowest part of the endgame) If you want to upkeep your main character, you will be looking to do the entire game on at least 2 alt characters that feed all their materials to the main character making that "grind" even more just slogging through chaos dungeons and guardians over and over until you eventually burn out. GL.

I loved this game much! The combat, the classes, the experience, just amazing! as soon as I realised that I would have to pay an unhealthy amount of real money in order to even participate in real endgame content....I was out. To me it was more like a Pay to Participate concept, which is something I'd do until a certain point, but not even close to the amounts Lost Ark would FORCE me to spend if I would like to raid or do end game things of the like. No thank you. And let's not even start talking about honing...

The endgame and progression system sounds like a full-time job. I also don't like games that make you feel that you need to log in every single day to do gated gameplay. Not for me. Thanks for the honest review!

My advice after playing for 4K hours: If you want to rush to endgame to do all the fun raids, don't play the game, you will be gatekept into oblivion because players just look at your character and immediately assume you have no idea what's going on and do no damage on top of that.
People need to understand that this game takes time to actually make a decent character and have an understanding of the game itself. Most of the horizontal content is NOT optional, it gives you lots of things that make your character stronger, but it takes time to actually collect the things you need, there's no rushing it. There's too many systems in the game that affect your character/roster and it takes time to fully grasp what everything is and how it works.
On top of that, endgame raids have mechanics and you can make a raid hell for your team if you have no idea what's going on (You should at least know your character well so you don't die because you didn't know that skill locks you in place and you get deleted for example). Some classes are harder to play than others, what you get from the tester or leveling to 50 has almost nothing to do with your character in endgame, so do your research.
That's just a few things that came to mind but, in conclusion: I would only recommend this game if you have lots of free time and are in no rush to catch up with people that have been playing since day one.

One thing you forgot to mention that CURRENTLY and for until around mid june (smile if you remember last year) theres multiple events that HELP skip through alot of the EARLY annoying non sense after the lvl 50 part ! normaly you have to go through TIER 1 TIER 2 AND then the game start into tier 3

But now with this even your first designated character will be able to do the lvling to 50 and straigh up continue some more storys and no grinding until getting to tier 3

much much better experience for new player !

I tried to take this game casually but honestly if you are not up to date with gearing, the raids become so shit. While you are trying to enjoy the raid for the first time, its just another weekly for everyone else. You die once and boom, thats your raid for the week. Cant even do it again for no reward lmao.

I think the problem is that we want always be the best and top end so we don’t like to behind and grind. I play from time to time and grind slowly up, I don’t care to be not top.

Hey, I actually just recently started playing through the game with a friend of mine and we're currently level 21 in the salt desert on the first continent. We've been having a blast so far and it 100% is worth playing if the beginner gameplay isn't too NPC focused for you. If you actually just sit down and play through the early game, it goes quite fast. The only thing I don't really like about the game so far is the early game multiplayer experience. If you play solo, its great and you shouldn't have any hitches. If you want to play the game with a friend, the multiplayer at the start is mediocre at best. There's a lot of areas you CANNOT go through with your friends and you still have separate player progression to worry about. The dungeons are fine I guess but they are clearly meant to be taken on solo and don't offer much of the challenge that you hope to see from a dungeon boss.

Lost Ark is one of those games where I wish I could go back in time and play it from zero again. Had such a nice time in the beginning but at the end game it got so monotonous and boring. Quit the game shortly after I collected my last mokoko. Love the game but hate playing it.

This game is perfect to kill hours from your life, i have played 4k+ hours and feels like I still have to play this game until I die and still not have fully maxed char, like 9/7 stone, 100 weapon etc but I do have LOS30 and LWC 30. I am struggling to quit this game so I can be normal human being again. If you are a one game andy like me stay clear from LA but if you are a superhuman who have full control on yourself then why you even want to try LA? You can play 500-700 hours to get to end game only to never get invited to raids and forced to pay gold for carries.
