They all go through their 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
Deanial: Claiming Ruan Mei hasn't abandoned them and that they love her.
Anger: Scolding you for even insinuating that Ruan Mei doesn't care about them, pulling pranks, or even running off.
Bargaining: Believeing that they just need to do something worth recognition for her to love them.
Depression: Crying and saying they aren't a recognized experiment.
Acceptance: Deciding to keep moving forward, fixing robots, cleaning and organizing things in the seclusion zone in the hopes that they can show Ruan Mei how much they've progressed.
At the end of the event, Ruan Mei even takes a slight intrest in their development.

This mirrors how the people strive to catch the eye of their Aeons, but the Aeons aren't intrested in them. To the Aeons, people are like samples on a petri dish. Some exceptional ones may catch their fleeting interest, but the rest are no better than mold or a string of numbers in an equation. To the critter's the reverence of their creator is equivilent to that of humans chasing Aeons (aka god).
