Thanks Rachel, I don't ever watch my tank temps, ( I have always set it, and forget it). I didn't know that about the oxygen! I am going to get one of those digital thermometers so I can keep an eye of it.

I'm in South Australia and because our humidity is generally low during the summer we are able to evaporative cooling. I've found that if the units fan has a high enough capacity I can turn off the water on the few days a year where the humidity is high and the room still says below 25C (77C) this is on days where the outside heat can be over as 40C (100F)

I'm able to keep my a/c on for my tanks at home, but have gone in on the weekend to turn on the a/c for my tank in my office when the temps get too high. A friend at work learned the hard way when she lost her betta that she kept in an aquarium on her desk due to the heat over the weekend.

Thanks for posting this. I've had to do the ice bottle trick to cool mine in our recent heat wave. One thing I'm doing for the future is replacing the glass top with a DIY "window screen" lid. This will allow for better heat loss through evaporation..

I'm dealing with heat issues myself in Philly. I have no a/c in my apartment. So going to do cold bottle water and frequent water changes 4 degrees below. Then place my fan in the room. Luckily I brought two powerheads on both sides of the tank to keep up the flow in the tank. I dim my lights down the most.

I had 12 tanks in my garage and the water bottle thing was a hassle lol. It got to the point I just got fish that preferred high temps.

I keep my hillstreams in the house... all of one tank. I bit the bullet and added a wall a/c unit to the garage (and insulation). Last summer I had 93° water in my clown loach and petricola tanks for a few days... They seemed happier than ever... but a few more degrees and I would have poached them - so the ice method. Now... the highest temp I have seen is 86. I set the a/c at 88° - so doesn't use a lot of power. Best decision I ever made - fish room got delayed a year... but one less worry.

Great vidio Rachel.. was wondering if you could give me a little background on keeping Amano shrimp? I have tried a couple of times unsuccessfully, We have extremly soft water where I'm at (less than 1dkh) and was wondering if they only do well in harder water? Keep up the good work and love the scapes!

just a thought Rachel, if using a drip system would keep the temp down if u turn that thermal regulator valve you told me about (thank you by the way)all the way down to allow mostly cold water to drip into the tank. Just watch the temperature and adjust accordingly. just a thought

Conventional Thermostat Aquarium Cooler's in Hamburg is not under 340 Euro's. I can afford...It's too extravagant for 20 to. 26 gallon Aquarium's. I use laptop's cooling Fan's instead with Ice Cube's if necessary. Though the summer in North Germany is Short.
But good enough to Ripen Cherries, Pear's and Apple's in our Countryside in the month of June, July, August and till mid September. This particular Year was Warm.
I dislike warm weather..
It's makes me aggressive over 10 Centigrade Temperature.
