For a long straight cut, never look at where your cutting, look at where you want to end up. It will result in a cleaner, straighter cut.

I have been sewing (off and on) since I was 6 (my mom was a seamstress). But, your sewing tips bring me back to my early years of learning.
I even helped a dear friend of mine learn to sew and she is real good at it now. I watch you so much…(mostly on my tv) that I have made a lot of outfits (😢😅😂 in my dreams).
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. You are the GOAT of sewing and I’m here for it.

Yes cutting is important. Also it's better to leave extra seam allowance then trim if you need to get rid of that extra fabric. Also you should be cutting with the pattern pieces on the inside of your hand & keep it consistent. It will add extra fabric & changes the fit of your clothing.

Yes, as a beginner you want to follow rules to the "T" to ensure better results. Once you've become a bit more advanced, then you will learn where you can make some exceptions. It isnt easy, but it will make you a better seamstress in the long run, and that makes all the hard work 💖😊 completely worth it💖💯

Thanks for this video ( knowing that I am not alone) . I teach at my church’s CDC and was totally surprised at the need to have an in depth lesson on cutting straight and sewing with consistent seam allowances.. like in depth😃and how they fought me on pressing from beginning to end😩😉..

I sew and also do machine embroidery, besides pins, I use Temporary Spray Adhesive to hold down my patterns. It can be purchased at the notions/sewing departments of the craft store.

Thanks so much love your techniques so much 😘 I forgot to mention the issue is there is a big gap where the tied bits finish and the arm sleeve ends, hope that makes sense 😊

Quilt rulers aren't just for quilts! I've got 18" and 24" rulers that I use for the straight edges more than anything but they are also handy for smoothing out fabric simply by extending my reach.
