I’ve seen other makers insist of finishing the inside of the wood slabs before the epoxy pour, but I know you don’t do that. Love to know why?

Could you save some epoxy by using wood to fill the river? After first pour when the epoxy is bit sticky, fill the river with wood planks and pour another layer, and then cover them all with the third and final layer. Of course that is possible only with black or white epoxy since others are more or less see-thru.

But could you do that? At 3:40, you'd have the river bottom as black, fill it with scrap wood and cover them, wait, and then do the third and final layer.

Did you have to flatten the wood after cutting to remove potential warping before moving onto the polymer?
