Lisa never liked being out shined by anyone, so when bart actually accomplished at something her competitive petty side came out and derailed his self confidence, so he just gave up. Remember when she would meet someone who was but a little better than her, she would tear them down ( the new girl who was great at sax and made the tell tale heart diorama, meg who was betterat sax, the girl at the ranch who she thought was the boys girlfriend and tried to get her killed, and others).

I love how whenever people complain about Lisa ruining Bart's success there's always a buncha guys going "ugh, the lisa haters are here, stop telling lies" and like, you do realise that there's many more episodes of Lisa being the cause of Bart losing his new passion/ability/career than there are of Bart sabotaging himself?
And also, Bart fucks up with Lisa much more often that's true, but he doesn't actively go out of his way to ruin the good things she has?
