I have numerous allergies, histamine intolerance, IBS, M.E., migraines...you name it +++ I've done everything to sort my gut biome. For 5yrs I following a strict SIBO diet, that morphed thru food fear into a carnivore diet which exacerbated the histamine intolerance & on & on. I woke up one day so stressed I screamed out loud "ENOUGH!". I started slowly reintroducing everything. And I mean everything - using a food diary. I decided it was worth a bit of bloat or pain, & an occasional wild flare to become less stressed & more relaxed about food. I now eat more varieties of than I even did. I don't eat processed or junk food - as much fresh as I can, cooked myself. My gut is getting healthier, my gut less bloated, I"m no longer food phobic, I love my food.

I get your point that not every IBS-like case is due to SIBO or excessive fermentation. BUT, Pimentel’s post-infectious anti-vinculin autoimmunity-induced SIBO mechanism, as wel as Boeckxstaens’ post-infectious mast cell degranulation to food antigens present at the time of infection mechanism both would explain the visceral hypersensitivity seen in the study you showed; mast cell mediators can activate neurons and repeated overexposure oversensitizes these.

The question that never gets asked is why? Why did fodmaps become a problem when there was a time when they weren't a problem? There is a cause and effect to everything. Removing fodmaps helps reduce the symptoms but it still doesn't fix the root of the problem. More and more I'm thinking the root is a gut-brain dysfunction.

What "percent" do you think is stress or mind/body, and how much of it is bacterial overgrowth?

Ok, but if I unknowingly eat food with onion in it I get violently ill. If I eat foods that I think are safe and get sick and then find out that they weren't safe foods

Treating my nervous system with daily tea for 3 months, has made a HUGE difference in my food responses. Which makes sense of this gut/brain axis situation.

I was diagnosed with IBS way back in 1992 so it’s been known for way more than 10 years. I mention this because I always get the impression that people think IBS is some newly discovered thing. So it makes me chuckle a bit. Anyway, the only food my doctor didn’t tell me about was wheat. I still have trouble but I think it’s related to my perimenopause. It’s been worse since I hit my mid 40’s. It’s such fun isn’t it? 🙄

Here's the elephant in the room that is always ignored. Magnesium deficiency. To actually say that supplements can't help the vagus nerve is insane. Without adequate magnesium your nervous system can't function correctly. And just because YOU and some people have jazzed themselves up about eating foods to give yourself psychosomatic symptoms, doesn't mean that's the case for everyone, . The idea that everything has to have just one cause is one reason why people aren't helped with their health issues.

Some people are perfectly happy without socializing. But if you are an extrovert IBS is a double whammy

I have to disagree with your insistence on meeting ppl being good for your nervousness ibs. I used to be hyper involved with ppl until I developed "ppl's fatigue". Today I avoid ppl and is helping my bowels, sleep, and ruminating mind a lot! I enjoy nature and animals though, but ppl... no, thanks!

My xrays show my stomach and intestines are full of gas. I'm burping 50x an hour. During an ultrasound, they said they couldn't see my pancreas entirely due to gas blocking view of it. I initially thought that I'm just more sensitive now and it's the same amount of gas as I've always produced, but I feel like the evidence that this is an overproduction of gas is staring me in the face.

I am not worried about the GAS part - I am aware of the brain fog that can hit at like anytime... almost debilitating

Actually at times it is - and I know mindset matters so i do try to stay upbeat and positive as my body is doing what it needs

I have gotten to a place where I am almost fully carnivore to just stop the drama around eating

I have done the low FODMAP for some weeks, I can not have lactose and fructans so I will not reintroduce them into my diet or should I in some way!?

I'm normally on board with these videos We begin by discussing a blind study whereby fructans are shown to cause pain and discomfort. We then go on to discuss it as if it's all in the mind. Perhaps, (and these are the kind of connections we see regularly in these videos) there's aspects of fructans triggering hyper sensitivity despite the gas level being the same. So, in short, discussing it as though it's all in the mind seems out of place following a result from a blind study.

Yes, I agree. I've thought for a long time that the brain gut axis is the key to healing. Namely addressing the nervous system health and vagus nerve dysfunction, something I've been working on for awhile now. I think a lot of people also have hypersensitive nerve function and can often feel pain and gas in a more exaggerated way. Thank you for this great info! Learn new things, do new things, connect with others yes!

Do you have any videos on using steroid creams or oral steroid medicine for eczema during a herxheimer reaction? Should they be avoided? I'm just using one dose every once in a while so as to not get adapted to it but I would definitely like to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks a million!

For sure there is the gut-brain-brain-gut-axis and the nervous system surely affects us and for us who have IBS most likely, most of the times, are more sensitive to the sensations of gas build up and so on, but that can not be the only thing since there was a shitload of people having IBS 10-15 years ago to, when lactosefree, glutenfree, and most certainly Low Fodmap, was something only very few knew anything about, and still people were reacting to milk, bread, pasta, onions, garlic, and so on + many times, despite knowing that what you eat probably will cause symptoms, it will often take hours before those symptoms actually appear so... there must be something more than just the nervous system.

Only thing I have is gas. So how does that explain this? I can eat anything with high fructose not even thinking about it until family starts complaining of my gas. Truly I don’t think if what I eat if it’s unprocessed. What are your recommendations? Family can’t stand it
