“Happily wondering night after night, is this how it works? Am I doing this right?” Well if this movie didn’t break my heart before, that line did it.

The part where she lifts her feet from the overgrowth always gets me.

It’s even sadder knowing a Gems appearance only changes when they get poofed Meaning she got so distraught it killed her

that moment when it hits you that "HOLY SHIT SHE TRIED TO KILL HERSELF THAT'S WHY HER FORM CHANGED" thats my theory at least. Someone who is a playmate and not a soldier would probably not know that you'd have to smash your gem for them to die, not do anything to their bodies of light, or whatever their bodies are made of. The part with her moving her feet for the first time in years with the vines and shit will always get me.

I like to think that either:

1. Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz _did_ intend to return for Spinel, but got caught up in the war and, by the time it was over, all the warp gates were broken, so she couldn't return to her.
2. She didn't think that Spinel would actually wait for her that long (forgetting that Homeworld Gems are expected to confirm completely and unquestioningly to their peoples' rigid hierarchy).
3. Pink _couldn't_ risk taking her, as Spinel is too conspicuous and would have (probably accidentally) given her identity away, or assured that she couldn't go about her business undetected.

Truthfully, though, Pink was, for a long time, very selfish, fickle, prideful, temperamental, thoughtless, rebellious, rash, and lacking in foresight. She was, to a large degree, like a spoiled little girl, who grew tired of her toys (Spinel), and discarded them, either not fully realizing or not really caring (I like to think it's the former) that this particular "toy" was another Gem who was created specifically for her, and that she caused her great pain by abandoning her the way she did.

Granted, she did mature a great deal during the war and her time on Earth, and she did have many good qualities: compassion, loyalty, a sense of justice, and courage; she just needed to grow up a bit for these qualities to come to the surface more.

Another bad quality of hers was that she was too secretive and proud to let others help her, especially with problems that arose from her own mistakes.

She never seemed to think about what having Steven would do to Greg and the Gems, especially Pearl, and Steven himself. Yes, she did love them all, and left Steven a nice, sentimental VHS tape; but it didn't fill the hole left by her absence.

She bubbled Bismuth and told everyone she'd been shattered, leaving her friends grieving and Bismuth in limbo for centuries. Granted, Bismuth was set on bringing the Breaking Point into the war; but if Rose, Pearl and Garnet could have talked to her, things might have gone differently.

She kept humans in her own private zoo, thinking to spare them from Earth's destruction, but obviously not thinking of them as people with lives and loved ones from whom they didn't wish to be taken.

She didn't think about how her faking her own shattering would affect the other Diamonds who, despite treating her like a child at times, did genuinely love and grieve for her for thousands of years. Blue in particular was a wreck!

3:10 Every negative emotion ever in one facial expression.
Sadness
Grief
Anger
Confusion
Desperation
Insecurity
Insanity
Loneliness
Spinel might just be the most emotionally fractured cartoon character I’ve ever seen

I think this is finally the part where Steven realizes who his mom really was: a Diamond

The way the whimsical instrumental mixes with the emotional vocals makes for a very effective song

Anybody else playing this in repeat over and over?? The music is perfect. The singing and the video are both absolutely perfect. Spinel's character design is just so adorable.

It don't help that her voice is naturally supposed to sound silly. She was made to be this happy joyful thing all the time and then THIS happened. It's like with every note she's sings these just ready to fall apart at any moment.

I feel like the ending of the song when a restored Spinel turns her head to face Steven is when a great majority of the audience just now notice that reset Spinel's eyelashes are flipped downwards to form tear marks in her current form, and that's such a clever decision choice.

now whenever you re-watch an episode of SU, remember that during all those events that Spinel is just standing there in the Garden,
