Since the 70s the rewards of the increase productivity has gone to the owners not the workers
50 years later workers aren’t having kids
I wonder why

You know, we keep on hearing the economic aspect of the birth rate and marriage but we don’t really hear about the social aspect of birth rate and marriage. Has views of love and marriage changed within the past decade? Do people feel comfortable and/or confident in entering relationships? These things are just as, if not more important, than just economics.

There was always the question: "When robots do everything, who has a job to pay for anything?" Ownership of capital means nothing when there are no customers.

Subsidizing the birth rate?... that is just a band-aid...we must also Solve the Cost Of Living issues

Considering what's required to reverse it, it sure feels unavoidable

What people forget when they are talking about how much more productive we have to become is that much of the productivity we currently have is wasted. We buy things we don't use, things that get broken shortly after they were constructed, things that we can use but that are idle most of the time. If we stop wasting labor on these useless things we have more time left for the important things. Producing high quality food, housing and medical care. I changed my life style and that way I could even reduce my working hours. I still have all I need and all I want, but I now have additional time to just enjoy life and relax.

All my long life people were freaking out about overpopulation. You think they'd be happy now.

The problem is not a falling population but an economic system that depends on endless growth for stability.

"Producing more with less people for less people" is just a faster bankrupting economy I guess. I think the solution to deteriorating demographics is deurbanization and demonopolization: more small family businesses where the child is a helper, not a burden. In any case, it will be done, orderly or chaotically.

The main reason i'm seeing for people not having kids, is the costs associated with raising a child. And childcare packages alone will never solve it. that's happened to discourage children:
Housing large enough to have kids is completely impossible to get.
Both potential parents run around all day working their ass off and don't even get their evenings and weekends to themselves anymore.
Both potential parents are so deep in their own student loan debt that they've passed the peak of when they can get kids before they can consider the expenses to take care of their kids.
Daycare is so expensive that you have to choose between taking on 20 hours extra work per week each (not financially possible), or making do on one salary (not financially possible). Address that and i think you'll see birthrates improve.

Growing economy and producing more? For Who?
When you have less people, you have less consumers.
Who you're going to sell to?
Looks like humanity decided to protest rich getting richer by dying out

The collapse has already happened. It’s like a distant star going supernova. The light from it just hasn’t hit us yet…

Is it possible to free our children (if we had them) from the debt burden of the Boomers. Wage slavery isn't a good inheritance.

How about making the cost to rent and buy a home actually affordable? We act as if the cost of housing isn’t entirely the reason why ppl choose to have less children.

Back in old days there were huge economic incentives to have kids, they were expected to take care of you(run your business/farm) when you retired.

Imagine if we had no public retirement benefits but instead a part of the children’s taxes went tax free to the parents pension when they had grown up. That would mean economic incentives on a similar level to have productive children.

When you sacrifice society for the economy, you end up with neither .

AI will indeed increase productivity ... by laying off or underpaying workers. The GDP gains will be going straight to the top. Not to the working class.
