What is the Story of the Old Testament?

The story of the Old Testament is the story of God, who wants a family on earth as in heaven. First with Adam and Eve, and then with Abraham's family. The story goes wrong pretty soon, but God wasn't surprised, because he would rather have a world with suffering and sin, instead of a world in which we don't exist. He's not going to change the plan. Check this out!

It is great to know that God loves us and wants us with Him. I hope He doesn't give up on me. Thank you for this.

As a relatively recent follower of Christ, it seems to me that the problem of evil could be accounted for with two basic presuppositions: God let Adam have free will, and God keeps His agreements with us humans so we can learn our own way.
Accept those two postulates and we can understand exactly why sin is such a powerful affront to Him and so dangerous to us.

@1:05 God has a family. He wants to exalt them to be like he is.

Most of our confusion & misunderstandings are based in the fact that we don't understand what God wants.

I am not comfortable with the way Michael describes God as less than all powerful. God could not create humanity without evil surfacing, or so Michael says. I don't think this is a fair limitation to impose on God, but rather that the surfacing of evil is an intended part of God's all over plan.

This is a classic example of "spiritualizing" scripture. This answer is not even inferred in the OT. Jesus never eluded to the idea of "God wanting a family. Sometimes, the obvious answer is the easiest answer. Quite simply, the Old Testament is really about God. It's when you read through it that you find out His wants., desires and will. But please, allow God to speak for himself.

Anyone really familiar with Heiser or this kind of theology, (I have just discovered him) these sons of God mentioned in Job, are they the ones God refers to when he says “make man in OUR image”
Sorry that was worded terribly but please let me know

How can men have free will if we cannot, due to our human nature, live free of sin?

I once listened to one of your lectures. I meant to ask. Are you suggesting that Jews aka Israelites stole the Words of GOD and Gave themselves the Title of the Chosen ones? This had to do with a specific translation of a word. I mean, the Idea sounds right given their attitude. You have a Great channel and information. TY.

Doctor Heiser had a lot of things correct. But just like the majority of christianity today and the world, he didn't understand what free will truly is.😢

Confusing. God did not “want a family”. What does that even mean. God created man and man is to give God the glory. God wanted us to experience giving Him the glory and enjoy Him forever. He wanted to share with us the joy of His glory.

But the overall meaning of the Old Testament is that it is not about us, it is about Jesus Christ our Lord. From Genesis to Revelation the Scriptures speak about Jesus. It is not about us. Jesus said:

39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

41 “I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

How does Heiser think that the Old Testament was about God wanting a family? He spoke nothing about Jesus, nothing about how we were made to give God the glory, nothing about the shadows in the Old Testament but revealed through the New Testament in Jesus, nothing about the Gospel. It was bland as usual from Heiser with no substance. He was supposed to know this stuff. He was supposed to be a scholar. The Bible is about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He is supposed to know this.

What Bible is everyone reading?. God loved them? The Old Testament God killed so many people for silly reasons and said I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh. Deuteronomy 32.42
