Do not plug that little orange valve. Do you even know what that does? It's called a de-ice valve. Sometimes you can get a layer of water on the bottom of the tank from a bad load of diesel and if it freezes, it will block off all fuel to the engine. If that orange valve is still operational, the engine can still draw fuel thru that hole until the ice melts. On the 7.3 the fuel gets heated in the fuel bowl on top of the engine via a heater element. Does not take long to de-ice the fuel tank from the heated recirculated fuel. Ya'll need to leave these items the way they came from Ford. There's reasons for everything. The more you know...

Wow thanks. I've been following the advice of others and trying everything from changing the icp to the fuel pump and almost bought a FICM and this was my problem.

I replaced the lift pump.
It turns on, but does not fill the fuel bowl. Could the sending unit be bad?

I wish I could find a video about how to reinstall the large plastic assembly lock nut. It simply will not rethread onto the tank even after cleaning it and spraying it with silicone spray. It simply binds and pops off after 1/4 turn.

Hey sir not sure if you know this just did mine a on th ago and everything is fine and saves 600 bucks. The sending units just snaps off of the unit housing and I ordered the gas sending unit for about 100 bucks and it snaps directly onto the old sending unit spot on the housing I ordered the gas winding unit for same year truck as mine that is 2000 model. Is a direct replacement the arm would have probably worked too but I used my old one it snaps directly to it. So hope this info will save a lot of people money

Is this the reason the dashboard fuel level needle isn't accurate for the front tank but when I flip the switch to be using the rear tank's diesel supply the readout says the correct fuel level? I have a 1997 f350 7.3L turbodiesel XLT dually Mason dump. Is it available from Amazon? Thanks

Hi,   I am trying to find out if just the float/gauge is available. I have a 99.5 that's reading either half tank or full tank always and it would appear that maybe a motorcraft PS-20 "sending unit" for a 90-97 would work, just switching the rods/floats out if possible.   If it reads 12ohms at empty and 160 ohms at full... it should work, right?
