You could try sterilizing it in an oven at 450 for an hour. Being glass, it may not be tempered, so might crack, but in theory, it's possible, just as you can put clay pots in the oven.

It's not 'probably' a good thing, it IS a good thing. We must stop waste in all it's forms - energy, food, minerals, metals, land, water - everything. That stuff is available in the UK and some growers I know are doing some trials. I'm waiting for the results. The only supplier of 'sponge-rock' in the UK has run out and is not restocking. This may be a good substitute - and recycled too. Daft dog (teehee)

Mike thanks for the video! I just got some growstone sample bags and am going to try it out with some rescue phals. Your info was really helpful. You can sterilize this by boiling between uses. Would you be able to do a follow-up video about mixes you use this in or how you have used this media? and show which plants you have decided to try it on. thanks! Anne

Your Ella reminds me of my Valentine❤️.I bought smaller grow Stones 2Mo. Ago to get my lemon tree out of soil due to root rot.Im afraid that it's more of a product you'd mix with soil to aerate the soil for roots.My problem is I waited to long to get roots out of soil mix.Dont know if it's going to make it??How are you finding it?

great video ♡ i agree its the new wave we should be think of our waste, i dislike bark for this reason. growing something just to chop it down !

I like Growstone. Something that you didn't mention is that there is very little powder. Perlite dust is capable of acting like asbestos when inhaled.

Have you ever been able to get an order of seramis? I was able to order I think 10 lbs or so from Germany.

Michael, have you tried boiling your Growstones to sterilize them? If yes, did it sterilize them? I've got some GS-2 that I need to sterilize and I've tried bleach and also tried h2o2. I'm looking for a cheaper and more simple solution.
