I have subscribed and I am hoping that Uncle Bryce will teach me new tricks and shortcuts in mental arithmetic. So thanks for putting up these videos. I must add, however, that where simple percentage questions are concerned there is a much simpler method, in my opinion any way, than the one presented here. It is so easy to first find 10%, them multiply as required. So in the above example 10% of 40 is 4, and thus 15% is obviously 6 (one and a half times four). It is especially handy when the number ends in zero. So, for instance, 30% of 80 is quickly solved by taking 10% of 80 ( 8) and multiplying that by 3(24).

One more thing, a calculation such as 24% of 80, is the same as 80% of 24. Using the 10% method, we get 8 x 2.4 which is simple, (19.2). Of course for more difficult problems Uncle Bryce's method is best.

Thank you SO MUCH. I remember learning this in school and I used to use it all the time. One of the most useful equations I ever learned! Today I needed it and couldn't remember it. I know this video is ten years old, but it still helped.

Thank you SM Uncle Bryce for helping me. It's astonishing how you still heart people's comments even though this video was made 10 years ago👍❤️

In this particular example a simple common sense approach would be to say that 10% of 40 is 4 and therefore 15% is one and a half times 4 = 6.

Thanks, for reminding me that of is a preposition. It makes it easy to understand the relationship between of and 40%. Great job. No teacher every gave me this vital information. I got it now.
