For the record, this game is pretty good. It just didn't blow me away and i did find some flaws with it. Hopefully you were able to enjoy the video regardless of whether you agree or not :)

The final cut has just come out to this well acclaimed game that has solidified itself as a definitive contender in the story-driven, choice based game genre. Its won awards, carved out a unique style for itself, and the game’s structure along with how the story is presented create something I haven’t seen before. And yet even with all of these positive qualities after finishing the game I felt, unsatisfied. The narrative overshadowed by the phenomenal game systems layered on top of it, the characters varying wildly in intrigue, and a world that the more I experienced the smaller it felt. By the end of it I loved so many aspects of it, but then there were so many parts that dragged it down. The art style is so cool with each skill and thought in the thought cabinet having an abstract piece to represent it. And the main character’s internal struggle serves as a powerful motivator to keep playing through the game and discovering yourself. But before I get into all that today I’m going to be taking a look at this choice story juggernaut and see just what exactly makes it so polarized for me, with Disco Elysium, The Final Cut.

Disco Elysium has the best writing I’ve ever seen in a game.

honestly if you really wanna understand this game better a Marxist analysis is necessary. the entire game is about the horrors of capitalism, how it crushes any kind of dissent violently and now its just eating away at itself while the people are stuck living in francis fukuyama's end of history, getting radicalized in really bizarre ways because they want something new to take its place as they live in the aftermath of one such attempt to get away from capitalism. the stuff with Harry is interesting, and i really did like it, but the world itself is much more interesting to me because you can really see the creator's humor and politics really shine through, and you really get the sense that these characters are people with their own beliefs informed by the world they live in instead of just factions that encompass a certain set of beliefs like most games. I actually wanted more of that and if they make a sequel i want it to be solely about the world itself.

also some fun facts, four of the voice actors are from chapo trap house, and i really wouldn't be surprised if the lead writer for disco elysium was a huge fan considering their politics are pretty similar (i also recommend watching matt christman's cushvlogs, he's titus' voice actor and his vlogs are very enlightening), and the studio's tagline in the credits of the game "mankind be vigilant, we loved you!" are the last words of a communist murdered by the nazis.

What would you say it's the best written game you've ever played? Just curious.

Agree, the boss was silly. The mythical creature I did not like but it was bearable given they talk about it so much throughout. The best part was the romance side plot, it should have been the main plot
