Jordan Peterson - You´re Oppressed! The Dangers of Postmodernism

The idea of individual sovereignty is being attacked in our society by a philosophy fostered by the French intellectuals that denies the existence of a unifying truth and poses group identity as someone´s only relevant characteristic. This sort of thinking is what lead to millions of deaths in the 20th century; it promotes a totalitarian state that crushes individual liberty in an attempt to bring equality; it posits blame for the terrible nature of existence elsewhere and in that manner justifies the avoidance of responsibility or forthright action in the world; and masks resentment and hatred with love and compassion to justify revenge.

Still the greatest live speech that occurred during my lifetime that I have ever seen.

If I could choose something to show every living person something right now, it would be this.

This message was lost on this audience I think. In the original, this was a conference about the toxicity and hypocrisy of the far-left in our institution, a valid premise. And the speaker Faith Goldy, among others, were looking for prime examples to call out the left, and invited JP for his most notable forthright uproar about Bill C-16. I think they were looking for echo-chamber inducing remarks, but instead JP went full preacher mode about something more, something higher, being a better person, not playing the game of identity politics to fuel their outrage. There was an uncomforting in the crowd, like putting up with your grandpa drone on and hopefully ranting himself to sleep. For those of us who understand, this speech hits home. And I am grateful, illuminated, for this speech. Get yourself together before you go out into the world.

He will go down in history as one of the great thinkers of our time. He's already in the top 25-30 most cited psychological/social scientists of all time, and isn't even dead yet. He's up there with Carl Rogers and Jaak Panksepp in how well he understands the human behavior.

I never tire of watching this rant. JBP understands the foundations of the Christian faith better than most Christians I know. Can you imagine a "Celebrity Pastor, " speaking the honest truth that life is suffering and we buttress that suffering by bearing our cross?

Nice video but just wanna make an addition to it from my perspective. Rather than reducing suffering, it must be embraced in order to become an übermensch. Cause thus spake zarathustra.

that sigh at the end by him was so eloquent. POOR VICTIMIZED now stop whining and asking for handouts. nothing is free just because you have a pink hat..love his hand gestures while he talks, it's almost a language itself :)

He's pretty resentful here, even though the book he bases all this ideology on tells one not to be resentful.

Incompetent ramble. So Peterson claims everything about being oppressed is true from the postmodern perspective but spins it as something to ridicule. Then follows up with the assumption that all life is suffering but that we all should try to reduce suffering anyway. So then we get ourselves together and eliminate oppression. Yet nothing about the last two are embodied by Peterson himself. He doesn't care to fix anything but to resent and ramble about his enemies. He doesn't care that to be oppressed implies oppressors or antagonists who stifle and destroy goals, impede heroes, and ridicule and hate them. That kind of ignorance is characteristic of oppressors.
