To me, macarons are an indulgence, whereas a cookie is comfort food. These days, I need comfort.

I don’t think it’s that people think they’re unfairly priced, because they are priced reasonably for the labour used to produce them, it’s just that many people are living in a cost of living crisis at the moment and can’t justify spending that much money on something so small when there are other options that are more fulfilling. People still like macarons, I bet if you had a platter of them out at a party everyone would eat them. It’s just people do not have to money to invest in them at the moment unless they’re living quite comfortably. The reason why they were really popular circa 2016~ is because most people were able to afford them. It’s genuinely just an economic reason & it’s not personal at all.

Edit: I’d like to clear up that:

1. I’m not even American, so stop trying to push American politics onto me. Neither is the original creator, she is from Australia. So American politics really don’t have any relevance in this conversation.

2. I’m not far-right. I’m very left wing, I am in support of the Green Party & Lib Dems here in the UK. Stop trying to put words into my mouth.

3. The reason why I said circa 2016 has nothing to do with trump, because of the reasons above, but also, in the time period of 2014-2018, I feel as though we didn’t have crazy inflation like we do now. I don’t blame that on Biden, because I literally live in the UK & I was under a conservative government when we entered the cost of living crisis. If anything, I would blame it on the conservatives, but really I blame it on the pandemic.

Now, please, stop making this political. All I wanted to do was to say that we are just living in a time, globally, where people don’t have a lot of money right now & in-turn don’t want to spend it on macarons. I have said my peace & I’m not entertaining your political rivalry, which in my opinion, has no place being here.

Don’t worry, I love macarons, I literally live for them. You’re not alone in this.

We like macarons, and we're not saying they're over-priced. We know they're difficult to make and a lot of work, but in this economy, they're just more expensive than other things for the amount that you're getting. ❤

I can buy a macaron or two cans of food or one bottle of medication for my 18yo cat that I rescued when he was 2 weeks old. It's priorities Brooki, nothing personal.

Macarons are one of the best deserts, they’re so elegant, the texture is so unique and satisfying, and there’s so many flavors

As a baker myself, I’ve found with the amount of recipes and YouTube videos out there on the internet more people are willing to make their own rather than just buy. It’s interesting for sure

The thing is it doesn’t matter how labor intensive they are to make, they are still expensive for people regardless. And many people don’t have the money to spend on one expensive cookie when they could instead get a dozen lower quality cookies for the same price.

Believe me, I would eat macarons every single day if I could. I once had a rose flavored one and it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

I think it's a little funny how Brooke is saying that nobody wants macarons anymore while she's piping at least a couple hundred in the video 😅

Macarons were a treat trend. Cupcakes and cake pops were previously popular before the macarons. Many people are cutting back on their daily perks of fast food, takeout coffee and sweet treats that have become too expensive during the last couple years. Regular groceries are stupid expensive when even the basics of butter, eggs and meat have increased 30-50%.

The fact that you are still preparing a lot of them means that it can not be that bad 😅

Macarons are my favorite but I no longer have money to buys things from bakery’s. My income hasn’t changed but with everything increasing in price, I am struggling to afford essentials for my family.

I think it’s important to remember that times are tight everywhere in the world and these are not affordable. It’s not that people don’t appreciate that they are labour consuming. They do. But people can’t and won’t buy what they can’t afford. So it’s really just that. You have lots of good items in your shop. Shift focus. Customers tell you what they want.

Macarons are very sweet. I have bought a few, but other pastries is what I prefer

I think you're right but many people may consider that necessities in life must come first when you're on a budget!

Let me put it this way:
For most people, their budget for deserts per week is less than $10. A dozen Walmart store-brand frosted sugar cookies (dupes of the fancy Lofthouse ones) is $4. The standard cost of a macaron, per cookie, is over $2.

I understand that macarons are labor intensive. But imo you can get something better/more for the same price. And I've never really cared for them that much

I fucking love macarons, I just feel that they're special and they're so small, that I often feel they go away too quickly 😂, but if im going to a bakery, I am gonna get something special and not a cookie or cupcake I can get anywhere.
