Heads up for tourists in Kyoto! Changes in Gion district beginning April 2024:

• Limited access in Gion: Gion's alleyways (its narrow private streets) will be off-limits to tourists. This is to protect geishas from overcrowding and unwanted attention.
• Main streets still open: Don't worry, the main thoroughfare, Hanamikoji Street, will remain open for sightseeing as usual.
• Respectful behavior: Be mindful that geishas are artists. Keep your distance and avoid intrusive photography.

Overall, enjoy Kyoto! Remember to be respectful of the locals and traditions.
