The clip from “the Dictator’ is very interesting.

It’s intended goal is well intended but unfortunately has a fatal flaw.

In America, we saw historically how power, when consolidated and centralized can be more easily misused. Thus, King George was unresponsive to the complaints of the colonists. Why? Because he didn’t have to be. He wasn’t elected. He was, as a king, essentially a dictator.

The colonists had no true representation in government, and due to the many abuses of governmental over-reach and lack of representation, we were led to eventually revolt.

When it came time to set up our government we kept these things in mind, particularly the notion that the best government is that which is closest to the people.

In fact the federal government was very weak at the time and we were simply a confederation of individual states with their own constitutions.

The central idea behind the Federation of states was that each state could experiment with the concepts of freedom and liberty, like laboratories of democracy.

The beauty of it was that state officials were not that far removed from the people and thus were able to be held more accountable to the people.

In the last line of the “from “the dictator“, Charlie Chaplin mentions erasing the boundaries of nations and heralds the creation of a new world.

Unfortunately this runs counter to the wisdom our founders understood from painful experience i.e.: centralized power is more easily abused.

If you don’t like dictators, then you want your government to be responsive to your people. A centralized world government is the last thing you want.

It will certainly and without a doubt be abused and will cause great pain and oppression for people all over the world.
