How I record and edit my gaming videos

WARNING: This video will not be interesting unless you are curious as to how I make the gaming videos I upload :)

People often ask what software I use, what codecs I use etc. So I just made a video taking you through the process where I hopefully cover the basics.

I'm going to try some of what you've done - my first Let's Roleplay Skyrim video is huge in the render format I was trying to use (even after fiddling), so I'm going to try using your render settings. As well as the video formatting tips. ;)

Big thanks for the video.
Always saw you use Sony Vegas but never dared to try. Now, thanks to this video, i finally decided to buy it, as it fullfills all my needs, especially by using OpenCL to hand over workloads to the GPU (using an ATi 6970) even tho the difference compared to pure CPU is not as high as expected or compared to converter using AMD App or CUDA.

Another thanks for pointing me to Fence. Just what i needed to declutter my desktops.

It depends. Mostly I toss them, but I keep a few. Because I use a fairly uncompressed format, they take up too much room otherwise :)

Thank you for this Gopher. I've been wanting to a Skyrim Let's Play for a while, and I couldn't because all I had was fraps (which hates my computer) and Camtasia (which is good for screen recording but not game recording) Luckily I had a bit of extra money to get Dxtory, so thanks for the recommendation. Now I have uploaded the prelude to my Let's Play. Hope you don't mind, I made it a Video Response to this video.

Thank you for making this! I've been having a lot of problems uploading so I'll try your settings.
Dang, what is your upload speed? That bitrate would take a week for me to upload a long video like that.
Have you looked into Reaper as a recording program? That plus Asio4All allows me to record multiple mics and game audio separately and master them. Super awesome, I actually prefer it to Pro Tools. Only problem is you have to re-sync it back in Vegas or whatever (Blender for me).
