I just caught my first queen! I found her drowning in my rabbits water bowl, so I fished her out. She just laid her first clutch of eggs!!! I'm soooo excited!

I tried to catch queen ants in my garden. Used 5 hours and didn't find any. Walked out on the road and found one in under one minute.

I recently decided to give a colony a try and searched for queens on the walkway to my home in the country. I found 7 Carpenter ant queens! That wasn't even all of them! I just moved them from my improvised set up to test tubes. Now I get to wait!

Thanks for making all of your videos! I've always wanted to raise an ant colony ever since I was a little girl. Watching these videos with my two boys has inspired me to give it a real go! It's been great bonding with my kids just going out hunting for queens lol. So far we have 2 successful camponatus queens. The one laid her first batch of eggs only hours after we caught her! Going to be a great long term addition to our family of ant nerds!

i know it's overkill but maybe i'll build a dark "room" (a big box or something). And use an infracamera to watch it/them everytime i want. :D

This is so helpful. I caught my first queen yesterday plus 9 other queens, they were nuptial flying, there was so many atalets around! :D Bought 15 test tubes today in a hobby store but your idea with a water pick from a flora store is a good idea!

I suggest documenting your queens. Keep a catch date, monitor when they lay eggs, take notes.
