welcome to my channel if your new here remember to like and subscribe👍in this episode we will be adding a 034 motorsport pcv valve in to the system to see if it give us the vacuum we need to stop the oil cap bouncing around after we removed the pcv system when we fitted a catch can in a previous video. Please comment below what does you oil cap do and do you a have oem pcv system fitted, aftermarket or have it all removed ?

I feel like a side effect of your engine running properly is a shaking oil cap at idle. It's when your idling and your oil cap is vacuumed to your valve cover that you have a pcv issue. I've worked on many 1.8t engines over the years and they have always operated this way. Then again, im not a professional but it's something I've noticed over the years. Btw, awesome videos Chris!

what is the long term effect of just leaving this as it is ? i have a catch can to fit for over 6 months now, i suspect its gonna stay there in its box

Glad you did this video as I have all the parts to do it but wont bother now as it seems to makes no difference 🙂

Hi Chris, great video, I'm thinking the pcv should be in the original place to suck idle pressure (small vacuum created by inlet manifold), and when you start revving, the turbo kicks in and will create a bigger sucking force and redirect blow-off through catch can? being bigger diameter than the inlet nipple...my 2 cents, just thinking out loud. On ttforum some guys say that you need the pcv even if you got a catch-can, to help oil drain in turbo oil return line, and probably to avoid damaging the valve seals. I guess the muck wil get into the PCV. some of it, but most blow-by will get to catch-can on high revs. How did you solve it since this video?

Can tell you paid alot of attention in the group and did your own research :D brilliant video mate.. only thing I'd say is that as you explained the turbo will only pull vacuum when it's spooling.. as I always drive with my guage on.. even when your driving at anything less than 15% throttle (low load driving) anything under boost will still give the negative pressure in the inlet :) which still as you know removes the blow by pressure..

Great video mate. I have seen some interesting things about the whole oil catch cans and oil vapours. The catch cans can actually add resistance which then allows a slight increase in pressure.

Why not try your PCV without the catch can (just as a test)? Also the oil vapours are more of a problem with direct injection engines. No catch can would just mean cleaning the intake manifold as part of the service.

I just replaced my PCV system with new like for like parts, with forge motorsport hoses new genuine 90° bend, puck and new PCV valve fit and forget, I had a catch can and it filled up quite quickly this time of year to much hassle for me and awkward to unscrew to empty.

I had a bouncing oil cap on my 1.8 20vt audi b6 quattro and a lot of oil consumption (only 130.000km's though).Changed the pcv valve with a new one and no more bouncing cap.
Need to check my oil level from now on.

Hey man, did you solve the problem? I got the same issue with my 2001 New Beetle 1.8T

I think I’ve come to the conclusion that this behavior is completely normal. When I had the standard PCV system fitted, oil cap bounced, figured the components were just worn out, so I replaced with the 034Motorsport kit (no catch can), and there was no difference afterwards.

01:23 Mate, i think you could have wrong understanding of the "Pancake-valve". It's function is to restrict the flow to the inlet pipe when needed. What I am trying to say is that the valve is always open

Iv got an AGU and mine burns oil like the government just inherited irans 🇮🇷 supply
Iv changed the whole PCV system and installed a catch can im gonna try your methods to understand it more thought it was the turbo feed throwing too much oil past the seals so i put 2 types of restrictors on it and it slowed down but does it still honestly im throwing the towel in

Hi mate, as per std set up what about putting the valve on the other side before the hose joins the valve cover and then goes to the catch can?

… been trying 3 times to just change the old this little vacuum but since mine is still under OE / hose/ etc of the PCV system, my laziness, I cannot remove those 2 of OE clamps on T HOSE I damn hate it 😅probably sure I need to cut ‘em off so i still have the replacement little billet vacuum in pocket maybe I will do it again this weekend but it’s cold here !
Good vid !

I'd be Interested to see I'd it made a difference when you remove the oil cap spacer. I'm pretty sure that doesn't actually have a seal mate.. so would cause a slight vac leak on cam cover which would void any wanted vacuum at the cap.. regardless, you now know that the blow by gasses are being pulled instead of building .. getting recycled just as ever ICE is designed to do.. but with a catch can inline :) cleaner and simpler good job mate
