Anytime I see one of these shorts that talks about how manipulative the algorithm is into making us scroll forever, it snaps me out of the scrolling loop. Thanks.

I love that you use "our" and "we" when talking about creators instead of trying to make it sound like it's someone else doing it. I appreciate the transparency.

Funny thing is that this was also something caught by a creator named Merryweather. A bit ago, he noted that he gets much less views when he uses the Vtuber tag on his TikToks than when he doesn’t, and his viewers theorized that this is likely because the tag is associated with YouTube and Twitch links to the creator’s other platforms.

This is also why YouTube recently added that weird comment term-search feature. Keeps you on the app longer.

And YouTube doesn't like links that take us off the app. They want our attention in a chokehold

Not to to mention the juvenilisation of the language around serious and often disturbing subjects. Grape, naughty moustache man etc.

the "influencer accent" is so real haha. ive noticed that my videos from two years ago have a completely different sounding voice than the ones ive been posting now, and im guessing thats because ive picked up that using certain speech patterns and vocal emphasis gets better performance in the algorithm. its weird though because i never made an intentioanl change with the way i speak, i think it just developed over time

Okay but to be fair 90% of posts that say “link in bio” are spam lol

And then I start picking it up from my friends despite never having opened the app...

I imagine these techniques are especially dangerous to people who already struggle with attention or fixation issues, like ADHDers or autistic people.

"and all you're observing is tik tok" bro did NOT have to call me out like that 😅

If it had been “a black mirror thing” i might not have watched this video. But the *most* black mirror thing? Of course I’m watching it!

It's so weird to watch from the outside as someone whose most-used social media is Tumblr, who doesn't use TikTok, and who barely touches YT shorts. LOL

I find it so weird that you generally do not do any of these things
Yet here I am, watching everything I come across from you all the way through

I think its also partially security. You cant trust people to not click random links, you gotta put up some bars to stop accounts from being hijacked

and there's me who always stops a video when reading descriptions cus it running on the background just makes it impossible to concentrate

to fight against these influencer taking my attention, I swiped to the next video half way through
