Dragon Ball Z CCG - A Retrospect

Here I take a deep dive into the history of the first big DBZ trading card game to hit the west. Originally created and released by Score Entertainment, (before Panini took over the rights) this game meant a lot to the DBZ fans during the original Funimation (and Ocean Dub) run.

Played a lot in tournaments I show off a recently acquired 'Winners' T-Shirt as well as a tablecloth made for the game during the tournaments.

Dbz was the first tcg I played competitively

I was a kid then, so I remember asking my mom to drop me off there. I was blown away that the people who played would buy entire boxes of packs all at once lol. My collection was just begging my mom for a single pack or deck whenever we checked out at target or Walmart

Those early days of the game were so crazy. Saiyan saga cards were either bonkers good or completely useless. This was around the time that new episodes of the series were finally coming stateside, so we were excited to get our hands in anything and everything

With some practice I finally won a tournament and still have that tshirt

Great memories

Awesome video! I used to play it all the time with friends back in the day and collected many of the cards. I also recently sold my collection but still kept 4 of my decks and some extra personalities: a Broly saiyan style, Piccolo nemankian style, Nail nemakian style and Yamcha black style deck

In 2000/2001 I traded three Magic cards for a level 4 Super Saiyan Goku first edition from the Frieza Saga. Always thought that card was fake as I never saw anything like it. It is real, and minty! My LGS never ran events for it. I probably played less than 10 games ever, and I totally scuffed on when to play non-combat cards. I always got destroyed by Namekian Toki-Wazu decks. I was a blue anger deck.

This was the only card game I played besides Yu-gi-oh. It was the first one. It was just as crazy as Yu-gi-oh ended up being upon release. Just a crazy wave here in the states. Love it! Which they would bring it back revamped.

As far as the rarities go, to clarify a bit more: 1-star was common, 3-star was uncommon, 5-star was rare, and 6-star was super rare. (Ultra rare?) 2-star denounced it was a "promo" card, they varried in availability by card, and weren't normal parts of sets, hence the set numbers starting with "P." I remember there were these "sensu bean" booster packs for $1 that only had 3 cards in them, and one card in every pack was a 2-star "King Cold's Sword Trick, " iirc. 4-star meant a starter-deck exclusive card. And tbh, I didn't even know that 7-star cards existed, lol.

I've collected these since I was a kid! I just recently pulled mine out of an old shoe box that was completely filled. I even found some of the Showdown, Hero collection and other cards that came in the DBZ Gummy snacks from Sack N Save. I finally put most of them in binders for safer keeping.
I never did get to play it with anyone, but I'm looking into it now!

Lovely video, it really took me back. I miss the old game and I miss the Panini version as well. Hopefully, they can try for a third time and maybe you'll be able to enjoy it if it ever comes around again.

These cards were my life after pokemon cards. I stopped collecting pokemon to collect these when I was in 10th grade. We would play every morning before class in the school library. I just started playing this game on Gameboy Advance 2 days ago

Played this game when it came out in high school. Just me, and a couple of friends in California. Even after years of not playing it, it's still one of my favorite games ever. I stopped collecting after Buu Saga, as the best of the game seemed to have come, and gone. My two friends also had already moved on. I wish there was a stronger/bigger online community for it. I still have all my cards/decks. Might teach my son someday then I'll have another partner to play with lol.

I remember getting so many of these but my main issue is I lived in the middle of nowhere and my mom was one of those who didn't feel like driving into town.. like ever.. unless SHE had to.
So I RARELY would get to play.
