I think those monkeys are a metaphor of bullying.

I thought about parallels between F.K. and J.J. They've both suffered from random cruelty that ripped them apart, one from a dog, the other from people. F.K. looks like a strange Frankenstein's monster, and J.J. shows unconcious concern as we see in her dialogues with professor when they've discussed her designs of a prosthetic leg and a knife - which signalizes that she feels like a kind of Frankenstein's monster inside. That moment when J.J. texted F.K. that he doesn't understand a shit about what she was going through, with all her dismemberment throughout the game, he replies that he understands, he's actually been dismembered as well.

That may be a long shot, but as J.J. has a manifestation in a wrecked stuffed toy, monkeys, normally-looking, loud and mean, could be manifestations of people who went cruel on her.

One of the first things I noticed about male-presenting J.J. was the fact that, despite having a male's body, she still had that silly girly run. That was cute, a nice way to show it's definitely still her :)

To be frank, I never actually thought of the locations like the church, train tracks, lumber mill, clock tower actually meant. Kudos for the detailed explanations. Only 2 locations still remains... the bowling alley and the pub... what do those place have anything to do with JJ?
