Timing Belt and Tensioner Toyota Lexus V6 3.0 liter 1MZ-FE/3.3 liter 3MZ-FE Camry Highlander RX300

Показать описание
This Toyota 3.0 liter V6 1MZ-FE is in some of the most popular cars of its decade including Lexus RX300 and ES300, Toyota Camry, Highlander, Sienna, and Avalon. A close variant, the 3.3-liter 3MZ-FE, is in the same Toyota models plus Lexus RX330 and ES330. Re-setting the timing belt is straightforward thanks to the timing marks provided on the belt and the ease of aligning the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets and pulleys. The timing marks on the camshaft pulleys and the rear timing cover, and the timing marks on the block and crankshaft pulley are shown in detail. There is a difference in the configuration of the tensioner and tensioner pulley between certain models. This is covered in another video. It does not affect setting the timing marks.

Love it. You make it so ONE can understand easily HOW to do this job. My knees stopped clacking after watching. A dealer in Chicago Heights, once just changed the timing belt on my Toyota Celica GTS. They did not change the idler bearing/tensioner. There was a LOUD bearing noise but they made me believe it was normal. Months later the beaaring seized and snap went the belt. I would like the Aisin Kit number... researching now. Aisin is part of Toyota

The engine is so clean that you can eat on it. Every thing is so accessible with engine out

Great video. At the end after "spin the crank two times" why do the belt marks end up of the markers put the pull says on marker? If you hadn't mentioned it I would have been sure I did it wrong.

This is very helpful. My boys had everything placed. The engine cranked perfectly. But cannot start. What would be the cause?

Is it recommended (or not recommended) to use the blue thread lock on the bolt when installing the harmonic balancer?

I can’t get the mark on the crack shaft to align with the on with the belt without turning the crank too much. How do I align it better?

So on OEM belts, the arrows face away from the engine? I saw on your previous video they faced towards the engine. Thank you in advance! Awesome videos

Great work no non sense and to the point. Thank you! I am replacing engine in 1999 Solara SLE with one from auto salvage yard with only 74, 000 miles on it was in a front end collision. 2 questions... Should I replace timing belt now or wait and see how engine performs for another 20, 000 miles? Also Engine is very clean and no metal in oil pan at all. No major signs of sludge yet I drilled out rivets on baffles in both valve covers to completely clean out carbon that was accumulating inside. Drain ports were not plugged but very surprised at amount of crud inside the baffles. Am aware can get updated RH rear valve cover but do not want to spend $200 to $300 for it. Can I modify baffles by drilling additional holes for improved flow or should I just tap and screw baffles back in place with Lock tite and just rely on frequent oil changes to avoid potential of build up in valve cover baffles. I have a 2000 Sienna with 1MZ-FE that I purchased new and did frequent oil changes and maintained quite well and has 467, 000 mainly highway miles on it so looking to get extended miles out of this replacement engine for this Solara project.

Merryfrankster: is the 3.3L 3mz-fe an interference or non- interference engine? I viewed your video from 2 years ago where you showed the 3L1MZ-FE is a non-interference engine and you indicated you'd do a similar video on the 3.3L mz-fe, but I couldn't find it on your channel. Thanks!

Awesome video, question I have a 2001 Lexus ES300 with the 1MZ-FE, is it possible to swap it with the 3.3 liter 3MZ-FE ? would like the upgrade and a little more power ... or what would be the best thing for it ?

Question, the rear (right, by the firewall) cam sprocket does not "naturally" line up with the timing mark, but the front(left) sprocket does.

In other words, while turning the cam sprockets clockwise, the front sprocket will "snap" in to place, but the rear sprocket snaps about 45 degrees shy of the timing mark.

Is this normal? any help is appreciated. Thanks for the video.

I don’t see why it’s needs the marks on the belt to be alighned because at the end they don’t match up anyways after your two spins…..I notice you match up the cam marks with the belt and it’s in time but the crank was out of time when you marked it up did you have to turn the crank in order to line it up with the belt ?

Is it possible to inspect the current timing belt to see if it's been replaced before and what condition it's in?

Can p1300 be caused by misfire from bad spark plug on 1mz? Also, can you add your general location in "about me" in case people want to seek you out?

Great video. just subscribed. ran into a problem while installing my timing belt on same engine, the right cam sprocket (one close to fire wall) jumped/moved counter-clock and is off by a few teeth from the line on the belt. is it safe to turn the sprocket and if so, in which direction should it be turned to line-up with the line on the belt? Thank you in advance!

One thing you did not mention or actually do before turning the belt.
Pulling the pin in the belt tensioner.

Like the video man, this was helpful!, I have a 03 Lexus rx300 same engine leaking coolant, suspect water pump leaking near the belt, I’m having a misfire only on bank2, the whole bank 2, 4, 6 checking scan tool and showing vv2 solenoid isn’t being commanded on by the ecu ??? do you think it’s more likely the timing belt became worn and skipped a tooth or so on that bank, or more likely the computer isn’t controlling vvt bad wiring or ecu ? is it possible being out of time is causing vvt to not work on that bank intake cam, as result of being off time on exhaust bank bank2?? How can I check my timing belt to see if the belt marks line up with timing marks how many times do I need to turn crank in order to get everything to line back up as if I reinstalled new one so I can diagnose this problem
