The ramen restaurant where you eat alone

Solo dining is becoming popular, but the ramen chain Ichiran has been encouraging eating alone since 1993.

The Japanese restaurant thinks food tastes better if you eat alone. Calling the design a "flavor concentration booth", the restaurant serves customers at a table blocked off by dividers.

Ichiran has a solo dining in Brooklyn, New York. The NYC crowd needed some design adjustments.

Being an introvert who gets anxious around new people, this sounds amazing.

Ramen? No interaction with another human? Not being judged for eating alone? Sign me up.

Best for someone with social anxiety and who lack confidence to order food

I'm an extrovert, but I have Misophonia, making eating around people hard because of slurping and me seeing the movement of the mouth while eating. This is perfect because I can be out snd about and be able to have a nice lunch <3

Are you socially awkward and unable to speak correctly while getting food
Me: Yes
Do you want quality ramen instead of the top ramen stuff?
Me: YES!
Well here in Brooklyn NY-
Me: I'm sorry, where?
Brooklyn, NY
Me: ... WHY CANT ALL RESTAURANTS BE LIKE THAT?!?!? I have to travel ALL the way to Brooklyn, JUST TO SIT ALONE AND GET RAMEN?!?!? 😢😢😢😢

This sounds so nice. I stutter when I talk, and this takes away from the stress of worrying if I’m gonna stutter while ordering. It’s also nice to just take some time for yourself sometimes and embrace solitude.

I’ve been there and it’s convenient cause u have ur own space and privacy as well as u can order from a vending machine which I think is pretty cool

I love the idea, i personally want to eat my ramen alone, enjoy my meal without the people in a nearby booth talking on their phone or their children are throwing a fit, screaming and crying, if i have my wife and/or we have some friends with us the booth is a nice viable option, but usually i just want to have peace and quiet and enjoy my meal. There is an old George Thorogood rock and roll song, and the main stanza is " when i drink, i drink alone" big hit, my version " when i eat, i eat alone", great concept

eating alone with people eating alone? okay.

Not only do I like this concept, I appreciate that when they tried branching out to a new location with a new culture, they were willing to adapt.
Many companies don't do that, and the larger the cultural shift, often the more stubborn they are about it, and that's bad for business.

People in America are SO NEEDY - forcing a conversation with a waitress by talking to her pelvis, bringing your gf along to interfere with alone time...just go to the right restaurant!

This soothes my heart. Reading the comments of people who know the value of food. 😌😌
