Boar bristle brushes are one of the most underrated hair growth tools! This is the second winter in a row that I've been inspired to get more consistent with my boar bristle hair brushing. As a curly haired person, it can be easy to think "maybe it's just not for me." But every time I begin using it again, I am re-convinced of its unbelievable benefits! Regular boar bristle brushing has gotten my hair out of an awfully tangled rut I had been in, and brought increased shine, moisture, and manageability.

Be careful with antiques. My mom was getting sick and they found out that the antique silverware and other things she owned had high amounts of lead. Apparently back in they day they used lead mixed in some silver items!

Ivory combs were used for tangles and styling. While the boar bristles brush was used to distribute the natural oils in our hair to the dry ends. Thus the rule that you should brush your hair one hundred strokes every night. That is what we grew up with.

😮 Oh!! I have an ancient boar bristle brush in a box of my great, great, great grandmother's bits, carefully passed down. Going by the family tree, and because I know it was given to her on her 21st birthday (the card is with it I think we might be hoarders of family history, it is 160 years old!! It's a beautiful thing, made of ebony with a raised silver, fancy monogram of her initials (HRP) and is in a set with an ivory inlaid comb and a silver hand mirror. I have never used it, and as my hair is type 3, I'm not sure I should, but I might try one day before I wash. I shall certainly go and get the box out because there are other beautiful family things in there like elbow length lace gloves, ostrich feather hair pieces, hat pins, gloves, Victorian lace collars and old calling cards. Such a different time!! Thank you for reminding me!! ❤

I have been trying less frequent washing and the boar bristle brush for the last month... my hair is getting thicker and longer. THANK-YOU SO MUCH for the videos!

I've been using a Boars bristle brush since 1988. You'd be surprised how much debris sticks to your hair.

Before washing, I comb out tangles starting at the ends, then i use a brush with timy balls on the ends of rhe bristles to stilulate my scalp and losen debris. Then i brush with the boars bristle brush.

My hair feels really clean using the boars bristle in between washings. It also shines more.

She has more hair in 1/3 of ONE BRAID than I have on my whole head! 😭

I have been exclusively boar bristle brushing my hair for over 20 years. During this time I have had to shave my head three times and wore it short for about 10 years. I only wash my hair about every three months, because it doesn’t get dirty, greasy or oily and looks really clean. I do dry shampoo my hair once a month and use Rosemary oil on it. I currently have hair that is about a foot long and am growing it longer. I have no split ends and have shiny healthy hair. I love practicing vintage hair chair treatments because my hair has never looked better.

I bought my first boar bristle brush last month. Love that it also catches all the shed hair that doesn't land in the vacuum cleaner!
Enjoy your precious brush, it is such a blessing.

My friend saying this as a kinky coils haired woman with hair up to the top of my breasts now (after years of struggling to get past shoulder length)…these brushes will change your life. They have made my hair spectacular (I set it in two strand twists since I have unfortunately enough hair for at LEAST 4 other people besides myself. Yeah. I am one of those people who have caused hairstylists to actually faint from becoming overwhelmed by the amount of hair I have. Take what you have and multiply it by 8 and you’re closer to what my hair looks like in plaits. The reason I use two strands is to get it to lay down as this hair has a tendency to be easily reactive to humidity and thus take comfort in propping itself up into a bush of sorts). Anyways, I contribute the two inch growth of my hair in the last year due to using these brushes to not just distribute sebum from my scalp to the ends but also finally get my hair to set in a style without a zillion hair products or heat, which is extremely hair to do as my hair is hellbent on poofing up because I live in a high humidity, highly forested area in New England next to a river. So you can imagine the ordeal and I have been baffled at how this seemingly simple tool is not embraced by the entire universe as it’s changed my life. Not being dramatic either. It’s phenomenal. My ends especially hold better where the gnarly split ends I’d perpetually get are less, which I attribute to the dragging of the brush from my scalp to my ends. The entire process takes about two days as I unfortunately have to split it to make the most of time and actually get sleep. I start with the twists in the front and by the end of the week finish with the ones in the back. My twists are all different sizes since I use them to show off a haircut I designed for my face. I keep thinner ones in the front, medium ones in the middle, sort of thick in the third back, and tiny ones at the base of the head to even it out. My hair is so soft and now I can last three weeks confidently between washouts out of not being uncomfortable or having an itchy scalp. I also receive eons more compliments on hair than before where before I’d get compliments but not to the level of people thinking I’m some kind of hair model for my hair looking like the fanciest Egyptian braided wig. 😂

My advice? Have two different sized ones and a foldable one in the bag. The tiny one to access your roots better for those that have super dense hair and the big one to drag those oils down the rest of the hair faster. The smaller ones allow to you smooth those hairs in the scalp better make certain styles like braids and twists look more polished.

Good luck in your journey. Love your content. ❤

Ah, cool! I have also an antique 123 year old silver plated boar bristle brush, best hair brush I had, ever!!! :)) And I have a smaller modern one. I brush my hair with them every morning and evening.

It takes about an hour every night to brush with board bristle brush if you have thick hair because you have to separate and brush small locks of hair at a time. Thin hair people got it easy.

We used to buy boar bristle brushes from the Fuller brush company salesman that went door to door selling brushes. Now that I think of it that's about the time my hair was longest. But it was curly and I was a tomboy and very mean to my hair. Damn Farrah and her feathers...

I have a bone comb I recently got and will be getting one of these eventually. My hair is to my mid back now. I’ve been evolving my hair care plan and I’m glad to have found you!

my mum used to use a boar brush to brush her curls out. She hated that memory so much that we weren't allowed brushes until we bought our own as adults. I now use a handless tangle teaser every night and have a brush dryer (a little overrated) for drying my curls straight
