Nothing wrong with a Britannia or ASE, but it's nice to see these really interesting ancient coins!

These are very rare and very valuable coins if they are authentic. The front has 5 symbols out of the rooster of symbols of that period. The combination of those symbols on the coins often gave information on where in the vastness of the Mauryan Empire were the coins stamped. The Sun symbol, the peacock, and the Bankers mark symbol that likes Triple OOO were civil symbols, while the military mark was the 6 arms mark. The triple OOO on the reverse and the peacock signify coins minted exactly during Ashoka the Great. Great to see these coins, you can find graded versions of these coins in India.

I’ve actually collected these for a few years. Love them. How much for the whole set?

No thanks, I'll take colonial/early American coinage any day,
Interesting though.

In comparison with ancient greek or roman coins, it´s a cheaper way to get a good collection of real antique artifacts because of lower demand in their home countries. You also may collect the ancient persian coins which also are much more affordable.

I personally love greco-endian coinage. The drachms and Tetradrachms from 100 BC and before really intrigue me. I never got into the medieval types of dirham coinage though. I recommend learning about Greek coins if you want to get started in ancient coin collecting though.

I'm not sure if these were from the same time period, but under ruler Janapada, I believe around the 5th and 6th century BC, they made Karshapanas made of silver, and usually depicted animals. Not sure of the purity

I purchased a samurai gold coin earlier this year, it’s rectangular and has Japanese symbols on it. It’s kinda my favorite piece in my collection now. It’s technically called a “ 2 Shu “ coinage was used from 1832-1858.

Very cool but i have no idea on any of them if im collecting ancients I’ll stick with the roman empire or greek coins because even if i don’t understand anything on the ancient coins the art on them is just beautiful and learning about the rulers is cool. im mainly a u.s. coin collector but im very interested in collecting ancients also

I agree Ben, these are so difficult to understand and intimidating to try collecting. I would have to take a course on ancient coinage just to get a start in it

To see those symbols, you have to have good eyes. I wonder how they were able to see them way back then also..lol ...Thanks Ben for sharing those coins.

I totally feel you! I have no idea how people can learn that because even the symbols on the paper don’t look like the ones on the coins.
