Just over a week ago, it seemed likely Landmarks would step in and save the French Gothic Revival house at 441 Willoughby Avenue at the last minute. LPC held a public hearing to consider landmarking the building on Tuesday, July 12. DOB issued a demolition permit this week.

What a disgrace. I don't live in this neighborhood, but I have always loved this house. I would ride on the left side of the 44 bus just so I could get a glimpse of it. It was beautiful in pictures and magnificent in person. This would not happen in neighborhoods like Park Slope or Brooklyn Heights. The people responsible for this callous disregard for those who have lived and thrived in this community should be ashamed of themselves.
