Living Like a Local in Cocoa Beach, Florida (and it's AMAZING)

We're Living like locals in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Camping at Jetty campground we head to Cocoa beach where we meet Baker, the owner of Sons of the Sea Surf School and learn how to surf. After surfing all day we get a bite to eat at the Pier. The next day we head over to Silver Springs state park in Ocala, Florida. They offer shuttles for you to kayak or paddle board down the river. We go back to camp and Kellie prepares a Mexican pizza.

Florida native here: The motto of Silver Springs has always been "See Silver Springs through glass bottom boats." Back in 1961, one of the glass bottom boats split open and sank. Everyone was rescued. However, the public changed the motto to: "See Silver Springs through no bottom boats!"

This episode was nostalgic for me. Brought to mind memorable surfing sessions at that pier from my teenage years in the 1980s, including the day I skipped school and rode my bicycle with a surfboard in one arm 6 miles to get there and, on a sadder note, surfing there the day a family friend passed from cancer.

I still have a pair of glasses at the bottom of that Silver Springs run! There used to be a halfway point where people would stop and jump off a huge fallen tree into the water. We'd camp at Salt Springs because it was pet friendly then rent the canoe at the launch at Silver Springs.
