I really needed to hear this. I have stage one breast cancer and I’ve been beating myself up over how I could have caused this. I’m thin and I’ve always eaten healthy, although I do like my chocolate. It seems that if you’re meant to get cancer, you just will regardless of what you do or eat.

Thank you for explaining the facts so carefully. Understanding helps me make better decisions. One thing we don't need, as we survive, is more guilt! Thank you!

Would like to see a debate between you and thomas seyfried. he’s done 20 years of study connecting the use of sugar in cancer cells. He also has many patients with proof of remission with scans showing how effective using ketosis at fighting cancer is

This is such good advice. I have MBC, I do watch my diet but if it a birthday or special occasion I celebrate with a small piece of cake and ice cream. Life is short and getting shorter all the time.

Thank you so much for answering this question. Lots of misinformation on the internet. It is really hard to eliminate sugar, and many people who claim to really haven't, and yes, guilt is rough on top of cancer. I was taught in junior high that all cells need sugar (fuel) to function. Since cancer and lymphedema, I have cut back on processed foods and try to get most of my sugar from fruits and vegetables....but hey birthday cake once in a while...

I did keto diet during the last portion of my neoadjuvant chemotherapy (4 x AC and 12 x paclitaxol dose dense), and my ILC did a complete pathological response. I was stage 3, grade 1 multifocal, ER/PR+, HER2-. Statically, I had 2% chance of the chemo working on my breast tumors. The response to treatment was outstanding and great prognosis. I still will have a SMX and 30 x rads but I could not be happier! I basically maintained my level of insulin stable (low) during the entire 5 months of chemo, eat high healthy fats, tons of veggies and conservative portion of protein. I’m not a doctor but I read a lot to prepare and empower myself. It worked for me!

My mom has stage 4 breast cancer and since she changed her diet to keto and other alternative medicine, her bc mets disappeared. I believe it because I have witnessed this.

Thank you doctor. Another contraversial question is hair dye and recurrence of cancer. It will be helpful if you discuss the same.

Once I received the BC diagnosis in August last year, I switched to healthy keto adapted to anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory style. Excluded fruit except for a bit of berries, all dairy except for a bit of butter once a week and maybe goat milk yoghurt a couple of times a month, reduced meat to 2 times per week. Reduced animal fat and protein. Avoid lectins and oxalates. Practice intermittent fasting 18:6 6-7 days per week. As a result I dropped 30 kg, brought my liver in order (good bye estrogen dominance causing BC), brought my GI in order (that's 70% of the immune system), candida and ovarian cysts are gone completely. I feel great even though I'm on medication causing one to feel awful. Cancer markers show that the treatment is going well. That's my proof that sugar causes various problems with organs and systems, which, in addition to other risk factors, cause cancer. I do understand that doctors are often bullied by the medical system to not say much about nutrition or say that cancer patients can eat whatever they want, but patients are also responsible for own research for the sake of one's health. Anti-cancer nutrition is great support to treatment and must continue for as long as we live because pills will be over after a while, and there must be another system to ensure cancer doesn't come back. That system is not just nutrition, it includes exercise, sleep, stress management and mindset, all this at the same time.

You also have to include genetics and environment. Diet is a factor you can control.

Your message is compassionate but I think the downsides of sugar in general, would contribute to more health problems. When addressing such a serious situation, I would think gut health really matters, even if there is no direct correlation because we now know so many health issues appear to begin in the gut. But you are so right that guilt has no place in the conversation or shame.

I quit sugar, carbs, and sweet fruits. I am not longer T2 diabetic. A1c 4.8. I also don't have kidney cancer anymore, I also don't have a right kidney anymore. I lost 35+ lbs to a heathy 165lbs and I'm feeling good. There are tons of good reasons to quit sugar and processed foods.

Thank you so much for this video. Despite other opinions I have been given that sugar feeds cancer, I feel very reassured that I haven't caused DCIS in my body and there a multiple contributing factors. Our bodies need a certain amount of everything including a treat here and there ❤

I want to suggest that people listen to Robert Lustig, MD who has numerous UTube talks about the dangers of processed food which is usually laced with high amounts of added sugar. The food companies add this to make you want to come back for more ( added sugar is potentially addictive). I don't agree that everything in moderation is ok. If you are talking about whole foods you are probably right. Whole foods have sugar but the sugar comes with fiber that slows absorption of sugar. Processed food has no fiber, sugar is quickly absorbed, insulin rises which drives weight gain and overweight/ obesity is a risk factor for cancer. Be very careful with processed foods look at the label for the amount of added sugar. The American Heart Association recommends alimit of 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day ( about 25 grams) for an adult woman. One Pop tart can put you over that limit and if you add some cake and cookies you are really over the top . If you are consuming processed foods daily you are probably consuming way to much added sugar. Read the amount of added sugar it may shock you. I checked the label of a piece of dairy free / gluten free cake at Whole Foods : 50 grams of sugar. If everything in moderation is ok why are obesity and diabetes and non alcoholic fatty liver disease rising world wide? I do concede that eating a piece of birthday cake is not a reason for feeling guilty but I think putting restrictions on consuming processed foods, esp concentrated sweets is a good idea for overall health.
