I was taught English in school from age 7, but English is not an official language in my country, so as you may expect, it was treated as a second language (because for everyone, it actually was). And during my 11 years of formal English studies, never have I once heard the rule about avoiding the usage of prepositions at the end of sentences; frankly, we were taught that way to begin with (like right here)

As a native speaker, it makes me realise how difficult it is to become fluent in everyday English. The idiom varies so much from place to place, as do the 's hard innit? 😀

Thank you Lucy, this video is really useful for English learners. I didn't realise that I am guilty of using elisions and contractions in my daily conversations until you mentioned it in your video.

You're the english teacher I would've wished to have in school. Though the one that formed my interest in the english language wasn't half bad, either. He would once a week record the BFBS morning news and bring the tape to class to have us listen to native speakers. I enjoyed that, quite unlike my fellow classmates...

I love these videos it's always a pleasure to see how well you explain things to people.

I grew up bilingual, speaking German and English, and I always found it confusing in school in Germany how strictly we had to adhere to the textbooks to get a good grade... I had a grade 4 in English consistently, lol.

I am a native english speaker, however I find these videos very entertaining and informative regarding what I can do to make my speech more understandable to non-native English speakers, as well as the strange nuances you pick up as a native speaker.

Lucy! You’re amazing!
I’ve been recommending your videos to my students.
I adore your British accent, it’s the one I use in class ( I’ve been listening to British music since my early teenage years and I was in Brighton for my training course for two months so Ive had the accent in the genes 😅) and my students go “your accent is different “ as they’re used to hear American accent from previous teachers or English with no connected speech nor contractions. Keep the superb work.
