The one that’s best is the one that puts less soil into the clamp, Forget asking the chopper driver think about the animal that’s eating it, speed doesn’t pay the bills !!!!

Merge Maxx 950 is very popular in Czech Republic. We do a lot of halage from alfa alfa and clover, so the merger is solution. It doesnt ripe of the leafes also the haylage is more clean.

Maybe me but growing up with a rotary rake, still seams the best way with less 2go wrong !!

Without a doubt the rotary rake is the best. Less mechanical parts to tear up, more efficient at higher speeds therefore a time saver!

There is no way that the merger makes a fluffy windrow, so if it's speed one wants a merger is OK, but for quality a rotary is much better

The rake is bigger where as the belt merger is better if the grass is used toward feed as it doesn't pick up as much dirt and rocks

Rake is better as it doesn't leave any grass behind

I got the opportunity to run both of these exact pieces of machinery. On this flat ground the rake will do a better job, but get into a rough or hilly field and the merger wins every time. A rotary rake like that tears itself apart going through ruts and uneven ground, and will only last a couple years. The merger will need maintenance also, but in the long run is built to last in these environments and can withstand the beating of rough fields.

This was a lot more entertaining than any of the other crap youtube recommends

They both have their pros and cons, but that merger looks as though it flicks a bit out of the edge as it goes along that might add up over 100s of acres also looks a bit lumpy

The rumors are true these machines exist outside fs

I have read some of the comments through I would put my 2 cents in. I have a single rotary rake that I use for small square bales. The windrow is much more consistent. I do not have any problems with the rake picking up dirt but my fields are raked clean. I have found it better to use a higher horse power tractor and run the pto at a lower rpm to prevent shattering alfalfa hay that is drying to bale. If you want to put dirt in the hay get a wheel rake.

Belt merger left material on the outside of the machine (not in the windrow) on a couple of passes. Rake didn't miss anything.

Ask the chopper driver - he'll tell you which provides the best swathe!
