I FINALLY Changed My Last Name 4 Years After Getting Married. Here's Why! (VLOG)

Come along with me as a I OFFICIALLY change my last name to my married name! I'm so happy this process is done. 🥰 If you'd like to know how to change your last name as a new wife, the steps are below (Illinois based).

STEPS TO CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME (ILLINOIS BASED / RESULTS MAY VARY)
1. Gather all your documents in a folder. You will need: Marriage License Certificate with raised seal, valid ID, and original social security card if possible.
2. Submit documents and application at local Social Security Office
3. After you receive your new SS card, change all your government ID's (drivers license, voters, FOID, passport, etc)
4. Change last name with new ID at other facilities (job, bank account, credit card, etc).

We have to jump though hoops here in WI too to change last names. Very happy for you!

Oh wow. That is very different from where I live. Here it was almost "instantaneous" if you sign your certificate with your married name while still with the minister. Then you go back to the registrars office with it and get the raised seal on the document where you signed the new last name and use THAT to change everything else.

Yes, I live in Maryland and it was fairly easy to change my name. I had to get a new liscence, and a new passport.
