Everything in This World Passes Away - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, in the midst of our country’s great Eucharistic Revival, we continue our reading of the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. And this week, I want to reflect on a line that names something so spiritually basic: “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life.”

Mass Readings
Reading 1 — Ex 16:2-4, 12-15
Psalm — Ps 78:3-4, 23-24, 25, 54
Reading 2 — Eph 4:17, 20-24
Gospel — Jn 6:24-35

We tend to worship the creation more than the creator. Grief has made me deeply aware of that fact. Great homily.

Like my dad used to say about being married to mom for 50 years, and 8 kids, faithful daily masses, houses, cars, jobs, sicknesses, feasts, fasts, new stuff, new friends, old friends, businesses, travels, wars, colleges, so much life him and mom had, me included, he said as he was dying: "Why you crying? We had a good run, son!" So I try and live with that in my mind.

Hallelujah The daily jesus devotional has been a huge part of my transformation, God is good 🙌🏻🙌🏻. I was owing a loan of $49, 000 to the bank for my son's brain surgery, Now I'm no longer in debt after I invested $11, 000 and got my payout of $290, 500 every month…God bless Mrs Susan Jane Christy ❤️

I love your analogy of fireworks. Catholicism is such a beautifully romantic way of living and being ! Gloria in excelsis Deo! 🙏
(I’m a new Catholic waiting for confirmation)

Bishop Barron, to me life is so short, and I watch the time go by to fast. I lost my husband passed 77 years old, found out he had cancer and had spread throughout his spine and bones, four months he was gone. At least in no more pain, but he is well missed, I keep thinking I’m going to wake up and this is a dream, so you are so right, thank you❤

I so much like to listen to this bishop. I am not a catholic. But I know the same Jesus he is talking about.

My wife, to whom I have been married for 53 years, passed away a few months ago. Death is irreducible and specific in that it calls for radical detachment. Now, I truly live in the tension between Christ crucified and Christ resurrected. Christ offers not a consolation in that moment of radical detachment. He offers better: his presence everlasting.

Bishop Barron makes constant reference to the "great spiritual masters", in great humility omitting that he himself is one
