This song was on the last page of cujo by Stephen king. It's really cool to actually hear it!

I first heard this one on the American Epic collection, driving through southern Utah. At the time, it didn't truly sink in. Maybe it was that ghostly Victrola sound, the "haunted" sound of those old recordings, in the setting of the buttes and ponderosas. Or being astounded that this single-chord "talking moan" was ever recorded in the first place. But there was a disconnect for me. That stayed for a very long time until I picked up the guitar one day and sang it and burst into tears. It is such a heavy thing to channel, and this unassuming, obscure track from 1928 may well be the saddest song I've ever heard, and is so without even a minor chord. I.Jackson must have been an exceptional man to have sang this one a stage.

Chords are epic and the Black American tradition of rhyming/rapping.
