Ditching a minimal Arch Linux install with a window manager for a full blown desktop environment on Linux Mint wouldn't be too bad would it... would it?!

I think that System Immutability is the future of newbie Linux distros because It adds an extra layer of protection to prevent an inexperienced user from breaking the system if they try to run any random shell commands and It also installs the updates in a Windows-like style as full images that overwrite any configurations the user makes in the deep system settings. The Fedora project has that and calls it 'Atomic' desktops in the form of Fedora Kinoite and Silverblue. The Universal Blue project also has their own images based on Fedora's atomic distros and are called Aurora and Bluefin. It'd be even better if there was an Immutable edition of Linux Mint or any Ubuntu/Debian based distro. It'd be the ultimate newbie system with Debian/Ubuntu's stability + immutability.

Interesting video. Thanks. Cinnamon has loads of features. You maybe should have started with the XFCE desktop. 🙂

17:20 I think you are right that ports are closed by default and it drops unsolicited incoming connections. Enjoy the videos but also try to comment for the youtube engagement score.

Have noticed this with other people who like 'terminal life'. When they get into a DE they get bored and kind of frustrated. They want to tinker and do stuff manually but everything is already setup.

I also switched to linux (first debian bookworm, then Manjaro) for 15 days but found out that my pc hardware is terrible for linux.

one of the first things to do is change the taskbar to show the program names not just the icons

xfce is easier to customize and configure than cinnamon for linux mint.

To get a solid color for bg, you need to set the sizing to None. It's a bad ui, inherited via gnome (mate has the same ui). To finish off mint to look good, better install cinnamenu, not the default menu (from their applet store). After removing the extra stuff, like emojis etc, it is by far the best menu experience on linux imho.
