This video reminds me of the disappointment I felt as a child when I wanted an RC car for Christmas but ended up with one that had a wire running from the controller to the car.

It is handheld in the absolute most technical sense of the word. Big quotation marks. You had to plug it into a CPU and that definitely wasn't under $100 :V

"handheld"
More like an external small monitor + a random android controller. Turn off the pc and that thing is a dust-catcher. Seems a bit clickbaity to me but ok

It's under $100. Except the cost of the intel NUC or AMD PC
This is neither a handheld nor under $100
This is a controller and display for your PC
I assume your actual goal is to promote a new amoled handheld for product makers, based on your comment towards the end. Then you should have called it a prototype for a new handheld.

You know he knew he was baiting when the cables don’t appear on the thumbnail. Big disappointment.

Ngl, I thought this gonna use some cheap amazing screen android phone. I guess I'm the clueless one here.

RIP the original title, "I Created an AMOLED Handheld for Under $100". I see you're already trying to distance yourself from this misleading clickbait video.

The video title is a little misleading. This isn't a really a handheld for under $100. This is more like a Wii U Gamepad for a PC for under $100.

So, a streaming device, but tethered to a pc. Granted, you don't get the network latency this way, but you'll still need to stay close to your computer in some capacity. Seems like a fun enough mini-project, but I'm not sure people will pay close to 100 bucks for a "handheld" that's practically dead weight without an accompanying pc if this idea was turned into a consumer product.

It's a neat little project that I'm sure viewers can tell you're proud of, but I personally think the title of the video could be a bit misleading, especially considering how you mostly cover SBCs and "true" handhelds on your main channel.

Ridiculously misleading video title. Shame on you.

The entire title feels somewhat disingenuous...

this is no more "handheld" than a gaming laptop... you still have to lug around a huge machine that definitely cost you more than $1000. i expected this to just be a phone with some clip-on controllers, but i'm even more disappointed than if that were the case.

Its not really a handheld is it? As your still using a clip on controller and the device itself has no power. You can get the same effect for less simply using your phone and a clip on pad. A screen and a pad doesn't make a handheld IMO. Nice clickbait though.

I guess you forgot to mention the $800 or so Dollar PC in the title

A tethered handheld? Sorry, but I don't see much appeal in something like that when you could actually play these games on a full-sized monitor without significant QOL downgrades from that configuration.

Having to stream it from a full-fat computer in your home is enough of a downside. But having it not be portable even in your own home? Sorry, but that's a game killer for me, and I suspect most people.

Come on Taki, this is a static handheld, in the sense that you can't walk around with it. If Anbernic or any other company launches a handheld like that you'd bash them into oblivion. This is a portable monitor with a controller that can't go 10 meters away from the PC. A used amoled android with Moonlight is a far better solution. The delay is negligible.

If you're counting on the user already having a PC, they're even more likely to have a smartphone. Why not just hook up a phone to the controller, and stream with Moonlight or even play games on the phone itself?

so you made a wired controller with a screen

So this is what Takis been doing instead of reviewing devices lol

Handheld with cables running around? Come on Taki, you're better than this...
