PC security discussions like this are great. Need a few more feature length episodes focusing on this, helps wade through the tons of snake oil as referred to in this.

Tell Mike we all loved "BIG FACE" mode.

Great episode. Sometimes it's good to hear the things you already know to make them real.

At 1:48:38, Mike says gamers tend to have a lot of bluescreens due to kernel-mode anticheats. Another cause is overclocking (including XMP, ) undervolting, and greater hardware stress in general.

Also, a couple comment on Bitlocker.
1. The data behind Mike's claim that it has no performance impact are certainly very good, but also were probably collected before NVMe SSDs existed. AES-NI is fast, but not as fast as 4xPCIe 4.0.
2. Even normies who don't face targeted or government attacks have browser session cookies and credit card info stored for auto-form-fill. My recommendation would be for bitlocker to be enabled on laptops, but not desktops. Not having to worry about your data when your laptop gets snatched is very valuable.

TPM is also used for biometric logon (Fingerprint/Face ID) as this method is better (more secure) than password.

Hey, I think Windows device encryption is just gutted BitLocker. Since BitLocker is available only on Windows Pro and above, in home version there is something called Windows device encryption and yes it encrypts your drive, however it forces you to export your recovery key to your Microsoft account. No other options for exporting key are available, you can't print it out, you can't export it to USB drive. You can see your recovery key when you login to Microsoft account afterwards. I'm surprised that users are not making stink about Microsoft forcing them to export their encryption keys to them.

Can a NPU chip be used to analyse data ? like to do antivirus tasks ? firewall data tracking/blocking ?

They're all wrong. The best hacker movie is Sneakers.

Questions : is NTFS and windows firewall still up to the task?

Number one always change the default password on any device that you put on a network.
Number two don't install those PC fix-it programs ever. A friend of mine had someone work on his PC and installed System Mechanic on it and it screwed up his PC. My friend started getting porn all the time and nefarious ad pop ups and his PC slowed down dramatically. It also turned off Windows Defender for it's own antivirus app which apparently didn't work. That hard drive was junk so I put a new hard drive in it with a clean install of Windows 10. The PC had Windows 7 originally and was not supported anymore.

What is the risk of using IA to make better mallware ? ( aka let a IA read/learn every mallware in existence..then ask it to make a better one )

@1:04:00 So, I have a question - if reviewers are turning VBS off and consumers basically never are, how is that a representative testing environment?

I get for other things like turning off windows update which could randomise the system load but this seems like something which should be consistent.

I also have never seen any review outlet mention that they disable it. This is one of my main gripes for the reviewing process across the industry - no one tells you what they do. It's just "trust me bro" all the way down....

Edge browser has a Super Res feature, and it really makes Adam pop more. It's crazy at how blurry a HD stream looks when you toggle it off.

The stereotypes about apple and linux people are kind of amusing to me ... watching on the second screen ... on firefox ... on a mac ... while playing games ... on kubuntu. xD

I don't use bitlocker, I use opal drives with sedutil.. the drive takes the hit and not the CPU.. around 10 to 15% performance writing and 10% reading. I use a crucial drive. Arch Linux and no keys stored in TPM. Secure boot OFF !!!

Did not appreciate God's name being taken in vein in the Q&A section, I came here for a technology discussion, not that. I assumed this was a family friendly discussion.
