Greene was a brilliant writer and he led quite a life. It is well worth reading his autobiography(in 3 parts). It is the best one I have read. Adventure and humor.

I was in Vienna during winter at the start of last year. I was thinking of this film while walking around at night.

I got my first VHS of "The Third Man'" in 1983. Now I'm devoted to Eddie and "Noir Alley." The bookend for me is "Asphalt Jungle." ♥️💋

The Third Man also had as its assistant director Guy Hamilton.

The canted camera scenes mentioned are also known as Dutch Tilts. Critics who have the temerity to, Heaven forbid, have a go at TTM, cite the overuse of the Dutch tilt in the film, which are used to heighten tension and mystery. Viewers will judge for themselves.

In Canada, we've recently been repeatedly denied viewing "The Third Man." broadcast rights? On an evening devoted to Orson Welles' films, The Thrid Man was suppsosed to be featured on the spotlight slot at 8 pm; but a telltale sign--there's no host intro....then movie music---NOT Anton Karas' zithere theme---from "The Tartars"...despite having seen "the Third Man" numerous times--some on TCM in fact---it was a crushing savor the moment when we'll actually get "The Third Man" on TCM in Canada...that and "The Thin Man, " "Harper"...etc

A brilliant film... both classic spy and most definitely film noir.

And was Harry Lyme really killed?

Mr. Muller, You said nothing about Alida Valli in your intro. Perhaps you noted her in your coda. The very hottest aristocrat in all cinema, and for all time: Alida Maria Laura, Freiin Altenburger von Marckenstein-Frauenberg. After the recent fall of Heroic Civilization, and its replacement by Therapeutic Civilization, we shall certainly never see her like again!
